Real vs Fake MR?
Real vs Fake MR?
Hi!
I am currently looking to buy my Bf/ fiance a Evo 9 MR.
however, seeing how I see SO many MRs..I've seens different ones with different trunk lids, badging, kits, etc
Ex: WE once saw a evo 9 with EVOLUTION VIII straight across the back trunk lid.
He stated that it was a Euro trunk, and it was fake, blah blah.
We live in Colorado...And almost every evo we See ..say MR!
So what are some things I can do to prevent myself from delivering a fake to my future husband?

The MR will have a six speed transmission, aluminum roof, bilstein suspension, a roof mounted vortex generator. I say you do that vin check, best way to really know since a lot of people swap gearboxes and badges.

To add to everything posted so far, there's no reason why anyone would want to "fake" a MR. The trim package holds no real performance advantages; all Evo drivetrains are the same relative to a given production run, and it's not as if it has any real pizazz in the community. The MR is the most common IX, which may explain why you're seeing a lot of them. The best thing you can do is to familiarize yourself with this platform. The stickies on the noob forum can help. Good luck.

No other way to know for sure.
Might be completely
but raistlin your sig is possibly the best I have yet to read . On topic though . Carfax. If it has the 6 speed aluminum roof vortex generator and the vin doesn't match its still an mr " package " might be even better lacking the mivec - look for that as well. try and buy it from a old dude that seems snobby and might lack knowledge on basic questions like " what brand air filter is installed ? " " what tune is flashed to the ecu ? " " what internals does it have ? " as well as noticing how their other vehicles are being taken care of . Good luck.

Assuming the above is true in practice, and we all know that it's not, how is the higher trade-in value supposed to override the VIN attached to the car and the expense of converting a 5-speed to a 6-speed? C'mon. That's just silly.

are you talking about complete conversion to MR? they(the OP) was asking about fakes, meaning by badge, sticker, etc. That is why the OP is advised to check for the VIN, check for the 6-speed, etc to make sure it qualifies to be a legit MR. you are the one trying to be silly! FYI, faking is trying to misrepresent the product to get a higher value not going the lengths of replacing a 5-speed to 6-speed, etc. don't be ridiculous!

Perhaps I misunderstood your point. Folks are faking MRs due to higher book value, which has no bearing on the actual market value, but the cars cannot be effectively faked due to the mechanical/legal delineations, nor is there a reason to do it in the first place. So, where the meat of the matter?

I see allot of Evos with signs that it might be a real MR, but then there will be a slight miss on the Evo.
I see that the haters are trying to ruin this thread. I never thought people would say such a things about a evo.
The reason why he wants a MR;
My Bf is a real enthusiast. He always wanted a Evo, ever since he was a kid. He has a super hard on for Mitsubishi. He not only loves Evos, he loves 3000GTs, Starions, etc.
If people to fake , dress up their Evo to look like a MR. People must be doing it for a reason, right? He knows that there is only a very very slight/almost no difference in performance.
BUT THAT IS NOT WHY HE IS WANTS A EVO.
"MR" may night mean anything to many Evo owners. But to him, it means everything. It is hard to explain...you would just have to meet him!
I hope we can meet other enthusiast on this site, and everyone hating can just **** off
