Advice and/or Help

Hi guys

just wanted some advice with what I should do with my car. I'm not looking for someone to reply stating that I'm stupid or I'm doing it all wrong or just the general need for someone to proove their dick is bigger. I just want honest imput.

What I have bought so far.

- air/fuel, boost, and water temp gauges
- AGP cold air intake
- Gforce performance chip (I know what your going to say. waste of money) thanks. I unfortunatly only stumbled across the bad reviews site after getting the product. But im going to give it a shot anyways to see if there is hope. Worst case im just going to have lost a bit of money.

The advice I am looking for is after installing my intake, what should I do next? I've been doing some searching, some say do a tune. Some say wait until you have more unpgrades then just do one big tune.

If tune right away is the way to go, how do I tune myself? And if not, Where should I go?

And last but not least, where should I go slash what should I get from here? What should I mod next?

thanks for the advice

ps: for the chip, what two wires am I supposed to connect to?

sell that stupid chip. get a full turbo back exhaust, and find a tuner in canada that's near you. If not, you can always go the E-tuning way. I've heard great stuff about Mellon Tuning.

I can't help you with the chip. Where you should go next is to decide what your goals are for the car. That determines what you should buy next. If you are going to self tune, it's time to start reading our tuning section. There is a huge how-to in the stickies that will provide a lot of information.

Important questions for you to answer are:

Am I going to auto-x or track the car?
Am I going to drag race?
What is my power goal?
How important is handling and braking?
Do I have access to local support to learn more about DIY things?

All of these things tell you where to spend your money. Lots of people on here want gobs of power because they want to race in a straight line or have a powerful DD. I auto-x a ton, so I did all the power mods I could to stay in STU class, and then put a bunch of money into suspension components and will soon be upgrading my brakes. The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to read, read, and do more reading in our forums. The search button is your friend, because just about every question you can think of has already been asked and answered. Good luck, and have fun.

Sell chip thing and either find a good local tuner or buy an Accessport.

Awesome reply! Actually what I was looking for thanks. I know what you mean by alot of people want to just put max power and all they can do is straight line power. But I would like to gear toward more rally and auto-X like you were mentioning. I know I wasted my cash with that chip and it sucks for me but its a hard way to learn. Thats why I decided to put this post up because I dont want to be wrong again.

Any other suggestions for futur mods and way of tune?

cheers,

Are Accessports user-friendly or do I have to fully know what im doing to work one? Im not a know it all by far. But if its relatively user-friendly, I can learn quick. I would just be affraid to screw things up by not knowing what im doing.

cheers,

I use an access port for two reasons. The first is because we don't have very many stations with 93 octane around here, so I need to be able to switch maps easily. Lugging around a laptop or tablet with a tactrix cable is not ideal for my situation. The off the shelf maps are ok for my DD, and I can take the tune back to stock for auto-x. You can't run a map with boost alteration in a stock or street tire class. The other nice feature about the accessport is the access tuner race program that allows you to use the AP for self tuning. Once I buy a few more things, I will put in a wideband so I can customize a map for STU that doesn't alter the boost.

As far as first upgrades go, it depends on what class you will run in auto-x. I am not overly competitive in Bstock, but with my current mods I usually finish top 5 pax and first in STU among ~ 50-100 drivers. I owe that all to not going cheap on coilovers. Plan on spending at least $2500-4000 on a good set. I did a downpipe-back exhaust, with a cobb HFC and agency power ti catback. It sounds great, works great, and looks okay (not a huge fan of the angled exits in the rear). I'm running EBC yellowstuff brake pads right now, but will probably try Hawks next. Another cheap upgrade is to throw a panel filter in. It helps to lean out the stock tune - although I think most of that problem was fixed after '08. Don't do a manual boost controller unless you want to compete in street mod, and you are going to need a lot of cash to do that competitively.

Last is tires. I can't say enough about the Dunlop direzza z1 star specs. This is my 4th set and I will be buying another next season. They only last about 5,000 miles if you auto-x regularly, so my advice would be to pick up another set of rims for your DD and throw some higher treadwear tires on them. Then swap out the stock ones with dunlops on them for race day.

Hope this helps.
