Best way to clean and oil pan...

Well within 3 months of buyin my evo 8 i ran into my first set of problems. Rocker arm on one of my exhaust valves apparently was jus laying in the head untill somehow it got jamed and shot it through the valve cover. So today i droped the oil pan to clear the shards and i was wondering wats the best way to clean the pan? My pops said using gasoline does the trick and i know other people have used break clean. Any suggestions...

Were there metal shavings in the oil pan?

Gasoline would work just fine. Engine degreaser, brake cleaner or carb cleaner would also work.

ya there were shavings and rocker bearings since it cracked and broke itself. Plus there were pieces from the valve cover also as it created a hole in it. Luckily the head wasnt damaged... Thanks for your opinon

You may want to replace your oil cooler also.

Reason I asked if there were shavings in the pan is because that means your oil and oil cooler are contaminated. You need to replace your oil cooler because you will never get all the shavings out and the shavings WILL kill your bearings in the motor.

To be safe, I would put the new oil cooler and new oil / oil filter in, then run the oil for 25-50 miles then change the oil and filter again to make sure most of the shavings are out.
