Question How much does a full rebuild cost?

I am looking at an evo that has a "lower-end noise" of some kind. I haven't gotten a chance to hear it in person yet but lets just assume that the engine needs a full rebuild. How much should I pay for the car? Here are some pictures, and what I know about it.

Mods: Intake, Exhaust, turbo & waste gate, turbo timer, boost controller, TIEN coilovers, Carbon fiber hood and trunk and other things it looks like, roll cage and gauges.

I assume it was raced at one point in it's life.

What do you guy's think I should pay for a car like this IF i had to do a full engine rebuild?
I still want a good deal on the car even after I fix it up. So I am going off of worst case senario.

I'll try and get more info and photos as soon as I can.

Thanks guys.

That's how much you would pay for the car or is that how much a rebuild costs? ....I sure hope that isn't a rebuild cost, goodness...

Yeah dont pay anything more then 12k. If its going to need a rebuild the car was probably beat on so theres probably other problems with the car then just the motor. So be careful!!!! & for the cost of a rebuild it all depends on what you wanna do, a built block, stroker motor all depends... call up a local shop they'll give you quotes. Good luck man.

It has 120k on it. Which quite a bit.... And I was thinking just an OEM rebuild. Stroker kits are a bit much in my opinion. Im not out to build a trailer princess if you know what I mean haha

But it also doesn't have a clean title, it was never wrecked but it had a title issue before. He said he would show me the carfax though. Now how much is it worth? Haha

my car had 80k roughly and i sold it with a blown motor for 8k, 8-12k max should be the price range depending on the rest of the car, drivetrain, etc...

Oh not being a clean title car I wouldn't even bother unless you can get it for a couple grand

I would steer clear of that car for sure. Wrecked, bad title, engine issues, and not to mention it looks terrible imo. Should have bought mine for 16 with clean title and 70 k. I would keep looking. Good luck!!!!

No no it was never wrecked, it had a title problem at some point in its life. It is a little hurt, yes, and I didn't think it looked that bad.... The carbon fiber stuff can't really be removed without leaving a ton of little rivet holes :/ What if it was white? Would its carbon fiber things look ok? I may be able to get this car for even less than your guy's minimum, so I'm being a little optomostic at the moment... Haha

But like a few said you may have transmission/transfer case/rear diff problems. Just inspect it really well.

Plus title issues you definitely don't want. Better save and get something running with no issues.

The guy has the title and it's fine, it just is labeled as rebuilt. Wouldn't a "rebuilt" but not wrecked Evo better than one that was wrecked? Next Monday or Tuesday I am going to look at it in person, so what things do I need to look at specifically? It does run, he just never drives it since it started making that low end noise.
