Welcome!

Skip the 6spd. They're not only weaker but need more stringent maintenance (with the fluid choice) and many guys selling their cars are just not that fastidious with maintenance work in the first place. The 5spd is well proven.

At first I would like to do the small things, ie: exhaust , intake FMIC, lowering, etc. I had a set of EVO8 wheels that I had on the vr4 that I am regretting that I sold =/

Anyway, I know I should search this, but is it really worth it for me to search for an MR or no?
if u can go for an mr 5 speed a lot of ppl on here say that the 6 speed goes out easier n doesnt have enough power. but good luck finding an evo that hasnt been molested.. thats what there meant for. try buying from old ppl hahaha and welcome to the world of of the evo lol only goes up from here

Welcome! Do an Evo9 5 speed for sure! Get used to driving it stock, then when money permits do some simple suspension mods like Swift springs/Bilstein dampers and then some basic bolt ons and a tune. Then drive it some more and get more addicted to the car, then do a turbo swap! haha

Good luck finding one unmolested in NY though. Friend of mine looked for months in the Long Island/NY area and everything was overpriced and beat on. He found one that was highly modded and someone flew in from Michigan to pick it up.

Thanks everyone for making me feel super welcomed! lol I actually have my heart set on one that I found here in NY (Im in westchester) about 3 hours from me UNmolested, 1 owner 06 with very low miles that I am taking a roadtrip on Sunday to see. I have decided against the MR's considering my obsession with very low cars and that would defeat the purpose of the MR suspension.

panda- I already have my VR4 project build, must finish that before starting another, you know this! =]

Ill let you guys know how it turns out Sunday! Cross your fingers I need some luck in my life (of the GOOD kind ;] )

Yeah I know, but the vr4 is a boat compared to the evo. Though gto vr4 is rare! So let's see some pictures of the build.

We know u don't want to get anything newer than 08, but the question is.....what color? Haha! I'm sure everyone wants to know, at least I do!

oOoOo a lady, welcome!

what are your goals for the evo? I have an MR and am pushing the power in my sig confidently.

They way I see it, the stock 6 speed tranny will hold about the same amount of power as a stock engine. If you're gonna build the stock engine, your best bet is a 5 speed, but most people who build the motor also get a shep built trans, which is also available in 6 speed now

Panda- I found a pristine 2006 in electric blue. It was love at first sight. haha If you want to see pics of my build pm me and ill msg u my facebook

prowakeskater- My short term goals are fairly simple. I want a DD with minimal mods, intake exhaust, header, fp, bov and a tune . Simple little things just to get back in the scene. Long term however, is a totally different story. ;]

Welcome aboard! I just got my evo and sold my 5 galant vr4's. Never was brave enough to buy a 3kgt vr4. The galants were enough of a headache! I followed the same path you're planning, finished building my 97 gsx and awd spyder before I got the evo. Good luck!

Lol! Glad to hear a 3S owners tell me that. I get a hard time from my friends for not buy one of the 3S vr4's for sale around here. Much happier with the evo. Good luck tomorrow. Hope you're able to get the one you're looking at. Your mod list mirrors what mine is. Have to post what you find to put on yours for parts. and have to post pictures of the 3S!!
