Looking into an EVO IX
Looking into an EVO IX
Found a 2006 Evo IX near my house, at a dealership. It only has 10,000 miles on it, it's priced at 21,000. Carfax shows two accidents, but it looks to be a clear title?
Accident reported
Involving front impact
It hit another motor vehicle
Front area primarily damaged
Accident reported
Involving right side impact
It hit a fence/wall
Vehicle disabled
Vehicle towed
The car looks nice, I want to go check it out in person, test drive, and see if they will budge on the price at all. Any suggestions?

it's been hit in the front, maybe his fault maybe not, but probably his fault.
it's been hit on the side by a wall. definitely the drivers fault.
VERY LIKELY the chances are the guy didn't have the sufficient insurance to cover the car (or no insurance) and that's the only reason why the car isn't totaled
i'd stay away. it could be a good find, but the fact that the vehicle had to be towed away from the scene of the accident and isn't totaled is very suspicious
unless they have pictures of both accidents i wouldn't pay much for that car. mileage isn't a huge issue on cars and you can find a 30-40k mile car in the same price range that has never been in any accidents.

For some reason I don't believe the mileage especially with two different owners. That's is not a lot of mileage for a car that wad not taken care of. Obviously I could be wrong but some of the most messed up used cars that I have purchase were from a dealer or used car lot.
It's hard to say without pictures (since they could be really minor), but what worries me is the second accident where it is stated that the vehicle was disabled and required towing. It must've been a pretty significant accident for that to happen.

Way better Evo's out there to be had! Evo's without accidents, clear titles, and previous owners that have taken care of them with records to prove it.
Steer clear and you will be much happier when you find the car you truly want!

I disagree with the insurance statement. If the owner paid out of his own pocket for the repairs, you would not be seeing the accident report on carfax. You can total your today and repair everything out of your pocket and it will be clean title with no accidents report.
Bottom line is clean CARFAX does not mean anything. I have seen many wrecked cars with clean carfax before, so do not rely on them.
even if it was in an accident, if the repairs are done right its not like it matters. If the car looks good buy it, get it checked out if your not sure what to look for. $60 down the drain is better than thousands.
