Roll launching

Hi all. So i got my evo 9 about a month ago and i love it to death. I come from all motor-ville though so with these turbos what is the ideal RPM you guys drop to when engaging in a certain rolling activity? I've experimented with dropping into gear closest to red line and that seems to slow because by the time the turbo kicks i have to shift. Dropping between 3-4k seems more ideal to give proper spool but i have also read that that can ruin the engine due to lack of air from lag. What to do.

3rd gear pull around 3300 rpm you should hit peak boost by 3700 and its a punch in the face when it does...

As for launching... our cars(as I'm sure you know) have a launch control built in, if you didnt know... next time you are at a light, push the clutch in, and push the gas to the floor. You will notice it holds at a defined RPM, mine is set at 5500. If you have a boost gauge you will also see it starts building some boost.

Actually launching with launch control is a science of its own, and takes practice.

Launching from a roll is very interesting too, there is a deal called brake boosting, it's used for launching at a roll. Pretty much drop to what gear you need, one where you will be in boost, obviously, hold the break and push the gas down, putting more break in where needed to hold the speed you are at until you reach desired RPM or boost level, then when you're ready, floor it and let go of the break.

Keep in mind, this helps wear down certain things and heats up your breaks and so on. Be careful doing this and hopefully you have a privately owned area to play on.

Yea I've seen the 2 step. I actually launched off it twice since getting the car and now my clutch is starting to slip. Sad face. I planned to replace it anyway but not this early you know. Any other things i should be concerned about when dead launching? I know its a risk in itself but to my knowledge if the tires spin the damage is minimal correct?
