Z owner here! Looking for AWD

Hello there!

As the title says, I own a 350z and I am loving every second of it. Except now with as I hope to get something a bit more practical. (something with more than 2 seats) Not to mention I pretty much have to own 2 cars when the winter comes, so by getting an Evo I hope to get rid of 2 car payments and 2 car insurance bills. So my question is what are some model years I should look at and what years to keep away from. I'm looking to go around 07-10 for the years. Also if any changes in HP between those years would be nice to know too, and any problems that might accur. (currently my Z's window motors are stuck and my passenger door won't open, which only fuels me to get something else)

And one more thing, how well do Evos respond to bolt ons? The Z is horrible for HP increase from bolt ons... +1-2 HP from intake... Yay..

Yeah I'm torn between a WRX/STi or Evo. I like what you are telling me about the Evo.

You will love the Evo. Personally I suggest a IX (06), but nothing wrong with the VIII. My car is an 03, it's still solid. Really u just want to find something mechanically sound.

They resond very well to basic bolt-ons, pretty much every mod will require a retune though.

Good Luck.

I had an 04 Wrx and i have friends with sti's but it'll come close to an Evo but it can never be compared to it..i mean who doesnt love a boxer rumble?but overall the Evo takes the win with Luxury, Style and Performance not to mention parts arent that expensive as an Sti.

There are a bunch of cars I'd like to point ya to.. But you asked about the evo.. The x is a fun car.. I honestly get withdrawal from "not" driving it.. I"m not sure where you are in terms of winter.. Here in Canada.. you'll be fine..

Pro's
- it starts in -40 with out pluging it in. (please do let it warm up though) everything mechanicly works great.. it heats up quick, the wipers work great..
- seat heaters are a bonus
-back seat is comfy (acording to my mother inlaw) (ps mine is the 2011 mr)
-handles anything in any weather or road type.

Con's
my only issue is i wish there were head lite squirters or wipers for highway trips to the ski hill.
- just as much maintenance as a volvo or bmw or Z 1000-3000 a year depending if you do your own work or have the dealer do it.
-gas milage.. if your like me you'll get 200km a tank in the city. 45L @60 bucks 230-250 a month

if you go subie don't mod it..
2004-2007 Volvo S60R or V70R is a sick car. imo faster than mine. More comfy seats, smells better, best sounding stereo ive listened to in any car.
but maintenance is a *****.. espeicaly since they were all driven hard. 2.5L 5 cyclinder 18psi, red line is like 6500 but dont bother with anything over 5500 it's a waste of rpm.. full torque starting at like 1700 rpm . 3 settings in traction 3 settings in suspension. Next time a V70R comes up for sale for a decent price i'll buy another one for my DD car.
Bmw xi decent but not nearly as fun to drive as the evo.
hmm yeah i guess that's all id concider at this point.. there are tones of awd cars out there these days..
If you wanted a mini suv the Juke is fun! Quirky but fun. althogh the interior is junk..

Welcome to evom!
The only way to truly decide is take multiple models for extended test drives.

My girlfriend has a 04 350 with Rays/275 rear, EVO II exhaust, Intake, Coilovers, Brembos, and a bunch of other things.
I enjoy driving the car a lot. Working in the engine compartment is not that great, though.

We get 28+ mpg with the cruise on. It sounds great too.
It still baffles me how a car running 275 sticky tires with mediocre power struggles to get traction?
Although it is sometimes a nice change from driving the gripbox evo.

Goodluck with the search!

Thanks for the info so far guys. I'm still searching for something, I have only found some around 250 miles from me. (I live in Ohio) I won't just settle on anything either so this search might take awhile lol.

Good choice on waiting it out. Rarely will you find exactly what you want in your own area.
My girlfriend looked for 4 months before finding her Z in FL. She doesn't regret the 2,200 mile trip at all.

Yeah I jumped on my Z when I found it, don't think I could of gotten it any better at the time I got it. Im either in for the long haul on the Z or I drop it before it hits 100k miles. I still have plans for it while I'm looking for a WRX/Evo. I still have mods to put on lol : Exhaust, headers, springs and plenum spacer.

I just picked up a brand new 2012 today. Its a pretty sweet car. To me there was no point in buying used. There is only 3 EVO's in my area (about 150 mile radius) and they are only a few grand cheaper than new. And you usually get better financing when new not to mention it is only yours.

i use to have a 350Z. it was a cool, fun, and pretty fast car(from a roll). i kept up with an evo 9 on the highway and beat an 8. however, evo 9 wins hands down. i love the awesome steering response and boost.

and my window motor broke too btw.
