Help A Newbie

I hope that I'm using the right forum for this. If I'm not, I can only appologize. With that out of the way, I'll ask my questions.

About four months ago, I bought a 03 Lancer OZ. It's a good ride and fun to drive, but with only 120 hp, it has a bit to be desired in that arena. After asking the shade tree mechanics at work how to increase my horsepower, they immediately said "turbocharger". That's a great idea, to be sure, but being married, that's just something that I don't have the money for. Realising this, they then said to change the exhaust and intake.

After surfing the site for a bit I found the upgrade path for the Lancer and it said exhaust, intake and the cat.

So, now I ask you to recommend quality brand performance pieces for my upgrading pleasure. If it were me I would probably end up with the cheapest thing that I could find, and I know that there are times when you get what you pay for.

My second question...after those initial upgrades are met, about how much of a horsepower increase will I be looking at?

Thanks all!

theres a page where Buschur Racing took a 5spd Lancer, dynoed it stock, than with an intake, than added a cat-back exhaust, than a test pipe...they gained 10whp, went from 103.2 whp to like 111.6 whp or something. Good Article, expect VERY similar gains with anything else. Ebay Intake would be fine if u trust Ebay, some do, some don't...spend $12-15 on Ebay Intake+shipping or $140-180 for a brand name one its ur choice. Exhaust, we have Greddy, Magnaflow, Buschur that have custom made cat-backs for our car that bolt right up or so. Only diff is the sound really, adn the Buschur is 2.5" and Greddy/Magnaflow are 2.25" piping. Some swear by 2.25" some people have gone with 2.5" piping...until we see actual Dyno #'s we may never know which is better in a comparison..so until that day its up to u really.

You will get more pep and a lot better 40+mph pull with those mods, not so much in a 0-60 cuz its only 10whp, if u get Headers, and RRMS piggyback u will be doing much better with all that stuff.

www.buschurracing.com
www.rpw.com.au (maybe wrong or a better site?)
www.rmrproducts.com

theres the main sites for our car, im 99.9% sure there are others

Not to be mean but before you post, try using the SEARCH button. This question is asked all the time.

great question, ya the people at your work are right. Turbo would be the best way to go, but ya lets face it, not all of us have 3-5k to throw aroud on that.

Intake and new exhaust system would be ideal for getting started. Just know ur not going to get a huge difference in power from jus those 2 mods, but u will notice a little something.

And, as darkknight said, next time you will know to use the serach button, lol jk
