Can anyone tell what is done to this motor just obviously bolt ons I know the ic piping looks different and the shifter is aluminum also a boost gauge..anything else you seasoned vets can tell?? This is from an older guy selling it for his Boss so he knows nothing about the car it's a 2005 with 55000 miles. I know nothing about evos this will be a learning experience for me. Thanks.

The only things I can see is besides the obvious uicp, intake, and catch can is the vacuum hose tee'd off the bov hose for a boost controller. As far as the interior besides the obvious boost gauge and shift knob, there is an apexi turbo timer and safc in it. And for the exterior, it's missing the wing, and that looks like an aftermarket intercooler, possible old sheet metal ams model or knock off of it. Hope that helps a little.
Thanks a lot for the help! I notice everything but the turbo timer? My last car was a ws6 but I am looking for something new so I know very little about turbos.. Will any of this help me? With a quick google some people say safc is not worth it. what will I expect from the setup aforementioned in your post. Or is this setup pretty much considered stock in the evo world? I am picking up the car tomorrow afternoon if all goes well. Autocheck looks good so it's just everything else haha.
I see the two inputs on that silver catch in back.. Which the oil catch line should go to.. Any reason that's off. I just want to make sure this isn't some hokey setup. Its a decent price.

The upper pipe, intercooler, and turbo timer aren't going to make any difference as far as the driveabity and reliability are concerned. The catch can since it's not hooked up doesn't matter, make sure the oem lines r connected properly. The safc and turbo timer can damage your motor if abused or used improperly. Honestly I would get rid of the safc and run a stock boost solenoid to get a better baseline. As for the intake if u want to keep it just put a clean air filter in.
Sounds good.thanks everyone.. I'll test drive/hopefully get this car tomorrow.. This car is in some corportate building garage with a lift so the seller said i could go through it with a fine tooth comb and make sure everything is all good. He seems confident it is immaculate condition, take it on the interstate and everything. I just hope I make the right decision for this much dough.
A quick buyers guide maybe? with mentioned mods? This forum is great, Honest answers. I really hope this works out, I've been wanting an evo for awhile, I live south Dakota these winters are usually brutal.
seems really well intact. with those mods, i presume that the car has been tuned, if it hasn't it might be a red flag depending on how long ago the mods were installed. Get the car inspected by a mechanic before purchasing.
I question why there is a catch can on there...not hooked up...Seems like it could be a back to stock. Have him snap a few more detailed pictures of the engine bay and we can further diagnose.
Also, tell him to NOT host them on Craigslist, as it makes any picture look like it was taken from a 90's cell phone.

its a crap shoot in my opinion, there shouldnt be a reason that a catch can is installed but not connected ..... Id say take it for a drive, drive it hard...and after take it to a shop for fluid check and basic component check. That way youll know if you found a diamond or quartz haha, meanin good car or headache in the process...and with evos theres a difference. Good luck, if you do buy it first thing ditch the afc and get some pulls done make sure afr and timing are in check. There have been some people buying used evos, and the new owner gets stiffed on issues previous owner didnt mention. Thats why a lot of people are hesitant on buying modded evos, and stock ones are hard to come by cheap.
