Lancer Evolution VIII vs. WRX STi
Lancer Evolution VIII vs. WRX STi
Hey guys, I know this is an EVO forum, but I just wanted to know why you think the Evolution VIII is better than the STi (if any, hehe). I am stuck between these two cars and don't know which to purchase. Asides from the different displacement, motor size, torque and horsepower differences, why should I pick the Evolution? I like them both, but I would like to know which you would prefer and WHY? Thanks for your time guys, and please be fair.
I personally picked the EVO over the STI because it comes with the best handling period. The HP can be increased easily and with little money. I used to own an 02 WRX and traded it for the EVO if that helps you.
Jesus christ. I normally never ***** about telling a poster to do a search before posting...but this is the quintessential example of why where is a search button on these forums.
You're not the first one to ask this question...not even close...

even newbies should follow the rules. Theres a sticky up top that talks about searching.
Im all about teaching someone to fish, instead of just giving them the fish itself.
it "ain't that hard" either to push the search button.

back to topic.....depends on what you're looking for. a friend of mine recently purchased an STi and loves the car more than i love mine...heh. but anyhow, IMO if you're interested in running the car on tracks and roadrace events, i'd suggest the evo as it starts out with much better handing characteristics than the STi. their suspension setup's are pretty close for the front( forged alum control arms with inverted shocks) and the rear is just slightly off( evo: multilink STi: double lower links with trailing arm). the STi is much more of a street performer...as in if you like street races, drag racing, etc...STi would do quite well. in the end tho...keep in mind. whatever you wish to do with the car...its YOUR car... choose the car u like better...u can't go wrong.
This is my standard answer for everyone and any cars:
I assume that there is no obvious car that stand out to you.
1) Test drive the cars you think you like. If you would, make a check list on the points important to you such as power, handling, styling, interior, etc. Put some weight into each factor based on its importance to you. Multiply each weight with its corresponding point, then sum them all. Pick the highest score car.
2) Check out your financial capabilities, including the insurance rates. Weigh in this factor into your check list if you would.
If you drive something that you REALLY like (i.e. stands out), scrap your paper and buy that car.
Do you really one some unknown guy on the internet makes a decision for you?
Good luck

I test drove both, i traded in a RSX type S. I bought the evo for the handling. (you can upgrade the power on both cars, w/little money.) But I was looking for the best handling car, since I have my SCCA license and am going to race this car, and retire my 99 mustang cobra. The STi has a ton of understeer.(I hated it) Buy an evo it's fun on and off the track!!!
Evo all the way! I had the same experience. Sti or Evo. The Evo handles better, had a good power range, and more space inside. That' s my take on it. All in all, drive em both and then decide. It's truely, the only way. Good luck!
I agree with Fly2low on this one. It's really up to you db, we can't make the decision for you. One's more expensive than the other, one has more stock horsepower but has crazy understeer(STi) and Makinen(sp?) himself said that the Evolution performed better on a 5 mile rally type course. If you want a non-bias opinion, you should ask in forums, you should read magazine articles, there are PLENTY.
:climbs up soap box:
I have a bone to pick with those who flame: First of all, one (1) person should be able to say "Run a search first next time, thanks," then give the info that was asked for. There's no reason to have 2 other people reiterate the point. OK, he should've done a search first, whoop-d-do.
Secondly, answer the question they asked! How would you like it if you posted something and someone told ya to run a search without answering your question? Just be more respectful guys, please. :steps down from soap box:
