What is a good price on an VIII with a blown motor?

I'm about 4-5 months away from buying my first Evo, and I've been debating on instead of buying a finished one, buying one with a blown motor on the cheap.

Few reasons I want to do it. 1 because I have access to a machine shop through my work, so block/head work will be dirt cheap and done by my boss with over 30 years experience. 2 because obviously it'll be cheaper, so I won't need as big of a loan if any at all. 3 because instead of buying a 'finished' Evo, rebuilding one myself will give me a true sense of ownership (sounds corny I know!).

I was looking at getting either an 03-04, or if I can find a good enough deal on a 05-06 I might upgrade to a IX.

Ideally what would be a fair price on an VIII with say 70-100k miles, and a good body? Obviously there would be a million of other factors, but I am just looking for ballpark figures. Figure they go from about $14k plus depending on the mileage, so would $7-10k be a good figure to haggle? I'm so new to Evo's that I've only really scratched the surface of knowledge. I have a couple years experience with DSM's, so I am familiar with the 4g63's.

I am considering selling my EVO as it has damaged crankshaft bearings and need to be overhauled. You can take a look at my build in my signature block.

I just want to throw it out there, a friend of a friend got an VIII with 103k miles on the clock for $6,000! Because the previous owner thought the engine was locked and it turns out that it was just the starter locked on the flywheel! the car is in great shape inside and out.

Wow that is an amazing build! Probably more power than I would know what to do with haha. Was looking for mainly a DD. If you're serious, and would consider selling it after the holidays feel free to shoot me a price via PM, and also your location.

That sounds like the exact kind of deal I got for my first DSM. About 3 years ago I bought a 97' Eclipse GSX 100% bone stock with 50k miles on it for $1,800 because the owner thought the motor was toast. Was sitting in his driveway for years, and he finally decided to sell. I got it towed to my house and the only thing that it took for me to fire it right up was to fix the wiring on the CAS. Some odd reason he cut the harness, and respliced the wires backwards. I fixed them and the car fired right up the first try. Ended up selling it for almost 4x's what I paid for it.

THe guy i got my car from thought the FP Green was blown and the tranny was going out. A new head gasket and some clutch adjustment later and I have a 400hp DD Evo for under $9,000. It has 88k and is meticulously clean on the inside, outside needs a little love but its a 10 foot looker. It pays to know your ****. Just make sure theres not a ton of problems with it.

i would say it depends on condition and body mileage of course like you said. Some may just have blown motor and come with a decent transmission. I have seen some for $12k with blown tranny and built motors. $7k seems like a more or a complete shell price. $8k-10k i would think the range would be

These are all great points, my friend. Personally, I am selling my fully built 2.4LR with all the bells and whistles.
