So I have been floating around for a bit now. I currently drive a 2008 R32 and am thinking of trading it in for an 2010 Evo MR. I test drove the car and was very impressed with its performance. It will be my daily driver. I am a 40 year old professional that still likes to turn it on and have some fun. I like drivers cars and performance oriented vehicles.
My only concern, reliability!! Is the car going to be there for me every day when I need it??
It doesn't seem like there are a lot of posts with problems, just little stupid stuff. Is this really the case?
Has any one driven both of these cars and what's your opinion!
Thanks,
Steven

It's easy to see how a lack of reliability may seem as a determinate to someone outside this community. You see, virtually none of the these cars are stock. They range from very mildly, intelligently modified Evolutions to the complete opposite. That same opposite exits in numbers far greater than anyone with a brain can possibly anticipate. Stock, the cars carry a level of reliability Volkswagen can only dream of. Modified, again, they range from similarly reliable machines to the complete opposite. I think you see where I'm going. Keep this in mind when you read the discussions on the board. Good luck.

That's an interesting way to put it. Honestly my VW's have been good to me but I am meticulous about my cars. I was really impressed with the Evo when i drove it. It was this first car in quit sometime that has done that.

Here are some helpful reads:

Evo X vs. STI vs. R32

If you treat the Evo as you should, then you won't run into any problems. Keep in mind, you have one of the best forums here for information if something should go wrong.

Haha no problem. I've never riden in an R32 but I'll tell you virtually everyone (especially here) will tell you to get the X

So I put together a deal on the car. It is a 2010 MR with 13k miles on it. I can buy it for 31k, It is white with the wing, rockford fosgate, bbs wheels. The usual that comes with an MR. The car is flawless and really looks like it is completely unmolested. It still has the original car smell to it. Is this a good deal?? It seems like it but I figured I would reach out to the people most around these cars.
What do you think??

I'd strongly suggest having the car looked at by an Eco-specific shop. Not an import shop, not a trusted mechanic of many years, but a place that makes its living working on Evolutions.

Have them check the ecu for prior tunes look at the normals mod spots for signs of modding. It's really hit or miss with MR's I bought mine new for this reason they are just so easy to mess up once you get in the higher HP/tq range. Ask the dealer what the person traded it in for and if buly chance he remembers anything that can clue you in on how it was driven before. Worst comes to worst call Cobb they are pretty damn good at anything evo x MR related.

I appreciate those tips. I was a mechanic for a while and have been modding cars for a pretty long time.. I looked around the car very closely and about the only thing I noticed is that there must have been an alarm installed and removed because there was an extra pin switch under the hood. Otherwise both inside and out all the fitment looks true. I didn't notice any bolts any where that seemed to have had a wrench on them. The guy who owned it, bought a brand new black mr touring. His car is being delivered tomorrow. The one he traded is white. The only things I could get out of the dealer was he is thirty and came across as a pretty mild guy. They said he is Asian and my sales guy said all service had been done there and the car never had anything on it when they saw it. He told the dealer he just wanted black and he wanted the moon roof.
Oh believe me they have a used black one there too. As I looked at that car, I found loose kick panels inside. I could tell by the hardware that the suspension had Been tappered with. I started asking about that one and it turned out that the previous owner had different wheels put on, full suspension package, gauges that had to be removed. The windows were tinted beyond legal limits, he ever had a strip put across the top of the windsheild. When I drove that one you really got that sense that the car was well broken in. On the car fax it also showed it had a non moving incident. Turns out his nephew side swiped the car with his bike and the whole left side had been repainted. I like the black color but the car was driven very hard there is no doubt about that.
