Rear wiper troubles

Hi,

My rear wiper works one moment and then it doesn't work the next. I have checked the assembly under the rear hatch, and all looks clean and good...as far as I can see. It doesn't seem to matter if I unplug and replug connectors back there... I can't seem to figure it out. For example this AM it snowed and i tryed the wiper, all was well. A few hours later when driving down the mountain it acted dead... did not work.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have 2006 evo 9 MR

Thanks

Have you checked the fuses?

Sounds like a loose connection or maybe even a squashed wire that is making and breaking as you bump around on the road. Other thing to check would be the relay and its connections, the coil on the relay may be failing and only working some of the time. IMO it sounds electrical from what i have read in your post.

Thanks for reply's guys.

Randal- fuses all look great.. brand new looking, none blown

Kstyle- I agree it is some sort of electrical thing. I like your idea about a squashed wire... it would make sense. now the trick is finding it.

How could I tell if the relay is good/bad?

Easiest way to check it is get a new one and try it.

Or get someone else in the car, have the ignition on so you can run the wipers without the engine going. Open the fuse box and find the right relay (Should be writen on the lid of the box) put your finger on the relay and get the person in the car to turn the wipers on and off, you should feel it click if its working properly. You may need to listen for the click if you cant feel it.

The last option is a bit more technical and PLEASE USE CAUTION!!

Take the relay out and find the pins that power the relay. They should be marked 85 and 86 (refer to picture). Get two lengths of wire and connect one end of the first wire to 85 and connect the next wire to 86. With the two trailing ends of the wires touch one onto the + terminal of your battery and the other wire onto the - terminal. You should feel and or hear the relay clicking as the switch closes inside.

Again PLEASE USE CAUTION!! I would hate to hear you shocked the **** out of yourself, it may be a small battery but it can pack a decent punch..... Trust me. Let us know how you get on.
