Should I jump ship?

I'm a newbie to the evo forum. This spring I'd like to purchase an evo x. I currently own a Mazdaspeed3, but lately the evo has grown a huge interest on me, especially after I went to a MAP dyno day and saw the evo first hand. I'd love to go get one tomorrow, but I don't want to rush into an evo just yet. I'd rather spend the winter researching these cars, since there a completely different platform then what I have now.

When I decide what I want to do I'd be in the market for....

EVO X GSR 2010 or newer
Preferably with the SSS package
WW, Blue, or Black (preferably WW)
Little to no modifications at all (I have my own plans----after I learn more about the car)

Let the searching begin!

Do you make a decent living? They are not cheap vehicles by any means. But they are worth it. I have never driven an X but they are growing on me.

Yea I do pretty good. I could easily swing a $350/month payment w/ cash down.

depends on what you really want man..have you driven one? I have a few good friends that have speed3's one is a 2007 and the other is a 2010...the utility you get in the speed blows the evo out of the water since they are hatchbacks...but the X is more roomy inside...if you do engine work its more accepting of mods and you wont have to get a front mount...it already has a really good stock unit...what do you have done to yours now? any pics?

Yea I took an 08 out on a test drive, I really didn't get to "play with it too much" because there was so much traffic.... Couldn't get into boost....I really liked how it handled, very tight steering and very responsive. The steering is a lot tighter then the speed's

I know thats why its so hard to possibly get rid of the speed. Its an awesome car, and I really like hatchbacks, but the AWD would be really nice for Minnesota winters and the potential to make a lot of power favors the evo over the speed.

So far I have a full turbo back exhaust, intake, turbo inlet, upgraded fuel pump internals, rear motor mount, and the cobb accessport-self tuning. Its basically stage 2. Front mount was in the books for this spring (if I don't decide to sell it)

I'd be somewhat sad to see the speed go, its been an awesome car, it really does throw you back in the seat when you get on it.

The photo is a little older but you get the idea (I removed the door moldings since I took the photo. Looks a lot better)

Thanks for the replies guys! Next step would be to test drive anther one to make up the mind. The only problem is there aren't any forsale in MN right now...... 2010+ that is.

Also is the SSS package really worth it? I really like the frostgate option because I really like to crank music on the way into work! I know you also you get hid lights etc, just wondering mainly if its worth the extra moniez?

like about how much cash down can you do? unless you are getting a used one with a bit of miles, 350 a month on an Evo X is not going to cut it.

think about it. an Evo is a $30K car. if ever you get approved on a 5 year loan at 0%, you are looking at exactly $500 a month on a purchase loan. Every $1K you put down shaves about $18 bucks off a monthly payment. using the same example here, you would need about $9K down to get an Evo payment of about $350/month.

350 a month on a 0% loan for 5 years is just $21K. you can barely get a Civic Si for that.

just giving you a realistic heads up.

I bought mine new and I'm still very happy I got the SSS package; not a single item in the package that I don't appreciate; especially FASTkey!

Yep what Macky said....do you own your car outright? that would be a big trade toward it or cash from selling it private...car looks good and sounds nice too

Defiantly, I have found some in other states for around 27-30k. I would have about 5k for a down payment. Plus tax and tile etc etc. I should have been more realistic on the 350$ per month, shoulda said more.

Most likely I'd try to sell it privately.....

But most cases you can always haggle a dealer on a trade or price off a car, not too much but every bit helps...

Maxspeed3 - Best of luck getting into your Evo. I'm in a similar situation. I have an 09 Speed3 I'm trying to sell (it's in the Other Car F/S section), only I'm trying to get an Evo IX. Once you get to 15 posts, toss yours up and try to sell it yourself. You'll definitely get more than you would by trading it in. Good looking Speed btw.

Speed3 to Evo FTW!!
