Evo reliability
Evo reliability
So I was talking to a friend last night who had just purchased a new Golf R. Good for him, I went onto saying they're overpriced, he counter with German build quality. I countered with saying just because the door closing makes a pleasing "thud" does it mean it's going to have 100k trouble free miles. Sort of went back and forth. Eventually, I questioned VW's reliability. I'd wager that the Evo is more reliable as long as you don't pound on it and don't add a ton of hp and tq. But, how reliable is it? I've never really thought about it. Or much less known too many people that own them.
So you debated with a friend about a reliability of a car you don't even own?
And why do you think they are over priced? If he likes it good for him. Every one else says a evo is over priced....

Part of the point I made was my Speed 3 makes 300 wheel and all it's ever needed was a new coil and set of plugs. BW K04 is smokey from time to time, but that's not Mazda's fault. And after adding the AP it went away because it bumped up the idle a bit.
What's scheduled maint. like for an Evo?

German cars break. Period. Parts are expensive and shops that can work on them are usually expensive too. My 335i lived in the shop. I'd say VW is a little more reliable than BMW but not nearly as reliable as a Japanese car.
If you keep the Evo stock or mildly modified under say 350whp its super reliable even when tracked. Once you start getting into the high 400s/500s you have to spend a bit to keep the reliability.
