Finally...got the green light
Finally...got the green light
So my wife finally broke down and said that i can save the money to do a down payment on a 2008 Evo X. got my eye on one at carmax. a 2008 WW evo X GSR with 13000 miles on it. im also gonna be doing some mods on it too. what are some good mods to start off with on a X?
I agree with the updated fuel pump relay..
The 2008 stock tune from Mitsu was pretty crappy- it's fine.. nothing is going to blow up or anything, but it runs extremely rich. If you get a tune, it will pick up about 40ish whp and get better gas mileage, run smoother, etc..
The best bang for buck mods on the X are usually the catback and either a testpipe or high-flow cat. The intake can make ok power, but the stock airbox is just fine. I say get a drop-in filter and save some money- unless you like the cool sound..
Do NOT get a blow-off valve. Alot of new Evo/turbo'd car owners get a new blow-off valve to sound cool. It will kill your driveability.
The stock 2008 will not be super fast. Once you add a testpipe and catback and tune the car, it will be a blast. Especially coming from the '03 Lancer..
Basically, stick with the brand names and don't cheap out on parts, although it may be tempting. Stick with AMS, ETS, MAP, CBRD, etc..
And just a little advice, always check with Maperformance for pricing.. They are one of the best vendors in the world and a vendor for our site.. For a cheaper catback, you could check out the Magnaflow exhaust with MAP's full 3" option. It is usually around 600 bucks. And when you get a testpipe/HFC make sure and get one that is bent just like the stock cat. Some are straight through and some have issues with them..

I certainly appreciate the honorable mention, my friend!
I am here to help whenever...just shoot me a PM! I usually suggest catback, fuel pump hardwire or relay upgrade and tune...right out of the gates. I usually look towards the end goal tho as you never know where your car will end up in terms of your project. NEXT series of mods are the ones that will tend to set your car in a direction. Anyways, I am here to help!
