My girlfriend was a bit sad when she found out the seats didn't recline, but even she said it was worth it to take my car "simply because its an evo" haha as for the drive itself, its 98% standard highway driving but there are a few canyon carving sections that make it all worth while!
The seats recline by twisting the knob on the side!

Last time I was home on leave, I took my car from Seattle to Salt Lake City and back (12 hours each way.) Seats in the IX are stupid comfortable i put about 4,000 miles on my car that month and never had a problem. This was with a Greddy TBE and stock suspension.
This is coming from a person that gets chest pains on long road trips because of an old surgery.

I must agree, the stock seats compensate for bad body posture. They force you to sit properly and that makes for a good ride. I took my X from northern VA to east TN and felt fine, no back pain or anything discomforting. This coming from a guy who caught 3 rounds in the lower back in trashghanistan.

I enjoyed the first trip I took with my car from Houston TX to Grand Forks ND about a 20 hour drive. I did it in 2 days with no cruise control and only one small mishap. The no cruise control and poor gas mileage is the only complaint. Ride quality is mediocre with the lower ride height. But you soon forget about that when you utilize excessive acceleration.

I've made the trek from Massachusetts to FL 3x. I have 3 suggestions:
Remove the wing to save a little fuel.
Make sure you have an undertray installed. (yes, they DO make a difference at highway speed)
And most importantly... invest in one of those horseshoe shaped neck pillows.

I have to say I dont like driving my 8 long distances, terrible fuel economy and no cruise is a fail in my books. Also ride is a little stiff for my liking.

If it has to be done, ill take the Evo for road trips, but i try to avoid long road trips, between the rough ride, road noise and highway drone from the exaust, and having to worry about the thin paint being chipped, if i had alternatives ill do it in a heartbeat. But if you have no choice, its not too bad, you just have to be aware of its limitations in the comfort department.

Since i got the X, its better, not still not ideal for long road trips.
