Are EVO VIII/IXs getting rarer?
It's just like all these people who want a 240SX. They are all still looking for that clean, never wrecked, never engine-swapped still got all the receipts unicorns. They're all just POS right now and most are in a scrapyard from the JDM hype. The same mentality and even the same lowball tactics. I just don't bother. I am happy with my EVO VIII.
Mitsu never sold many Evo's in the States.. '03 saw less than 3,600 for the year. '06 saw the highest sales numbers. I can't imagine how many have been totaled/parted out since then. Given the way most are driven, I would go as far to say that there's maybe 50-60% of that number left.. But knowing how rare they are still doesn't stop me from wanting to put as many [s]miles as I can on mine! The way I look at it is: at the end of my ownership of it/life, I would kick myself harder in the a$$ for not driving it more than I would for putting too many miles on it (if there is such a thing..) I use mine, but I take the highest care of it as well.
To be frank, which one of you guys currently is of the mentality that you're maintaining a low mileage/ultra clean Evo for the next guy to enjoy??
There's a member on here who's sig reads:
"Not putting miles on your Evo is like not having sex with your girlfriend so she'd be more desirable to her next boyfriend."
There's a certain aspect of that analogy that I agree with..
So to my fellow Evo owners who aren't afraid of a few miles, snow, or dirt.. Here's to you!

Lets not forget the member who caught some fat drunken slob spray painting some non sense on the side of his car and that same member video taped him punching the guy in the face.
im not saying hide your cars, but be wise with it. thats what made me stop driving mine more frequently, because auto insurance claims raise your rates everytime something is reported of damage.
whenever i do take it out, it would have been for a cruise to a relative or friends home or just a spirited ride around. not to go do my weekly grocery shopping or to a happening night spot anymore.
OMFG why do people care if people don't drive their cars?!!!! I don't understand why people get so butthurt about it. It's so annoying hearing it day in and day out. Drive your cars. What, are you saving the miles for the next person? Who. Effing. Cares. I don't plan on selling my car anytime soon. So if it sits in a garage while I pay a good chunk of change for it, so be it. You don't pay my payment, and until somebody does, I'll let my car sit for a whole year if I want to.
Evo's to me are a lot rarer than some cars. Take a day and drive around and see how many of the same cars you see over and over and over again. Subaru's are a dime a dozen, Mustangs are a dime a dozen, 350 Z's, etc etc. I personally don't see many Evo's around and the ones I do see are kept in 100% pristine condition which makes people appreciate them more when they see them.

My Evo is my DD, so it's not as if I am purposely avoiding putting mileage on it. But I don't mind avoiding unnecessary mileage outside of commuting. I accept the cost of the maintenance services, but if I can push them back and not make really long trips, then I'll do it. I like driving my car, but there are times where I'll recommend that we take a different person's car, such as if we're driving to Vegas or something where we need more room, whether we're talking about the passenger compartment or the trunk. Additionally, if you're just going on a road trip that is all freeway mileage through long straights without any weather conditions, then I don't mind taking my girlfriend's Corolla, which on a trip like that literally costs half as much in gas for the same trip. And on top of that, it's not like on those long road trips, everyone in the car can drive stick, and if they can, they usually aren't very good. So in those cases I won't eagerly volunteer my car for a trip to somewhere more than 100 miles.
sort of going off topic with the keeping it low mileage or a garage queen. to be quite honest only reason i havent driven mine as much is because mine has been a target of vandalism a year or so back.... if you don't mind going somewhere and finding a broken window, wing or nicely done key mark across the whole driver side of your car like what happen to myself then go for it bro.

So true unfortunately, my poor evo has been egged twice in the last three days outside my house. I'm pretty peeved about it, but I figure they just hate cause they're jealous. Doesn't stop me from washing that crap off. I just see vandalism especially on a car of the utmost disrespect.

That's exactly why I keep my car locked up in a garage where only a handful of people know where it is. I had some kid threaten me the other day that I should "keep a close eye on my wheels, and I hope I have full coverage on my car". I just laughed and said "have fun finding it".

If they exist, they're in the hands of a select few purists who aren't interested in selling them. AE86s are even rarer than the 240SXs are getting to be. It's a sad, lowballers game if one comes up for sale. Sorry but the JDM hype has run its course. People know now that one doesn't need a JDM car to go drift with. Many examples of USDM cars that can do the same thing for much cheaper. Plus the US scene has matured into its own.
