New Evo IX owner! Couple of questions...
Hey All,
Finally was able to purchase a 2006 Evolution IX MR!! I made the purchase through Cook Volkswagon in MD. Anyways, it has 113k on the engine as far as I know. The dealer didn't mention anything about an engine swap, but they did mention that it drives like a monster. I'm new to the Evolution scene, but was starting to get into the DSM scene as I owned a 96 Eclipse GSX. As far as I can tell it has both Injen upper & lower intercooler piping, Turbo Smart dual port bov, Injen hard intake pipe w/ K&N filter, 3" Invidia exhaust w/out cat, AEM oil pressure, boost/vacuum, and AFR gauges. I noticed a Greddy Profec B (blue box) as well as a two port Greddy box mounted under the air filter. It has a manual boost controller (unsure of the brand)is installed. The vehicle seems to be well maintained as far as I can tell and has quality name brand aftermarket parts. The clutch is REALLY REALLY tight, and seems to be aftermarket. It also has a 5 speed transmission instead of the 6 speed that came with the MR. Turbo seems to be stock.
Anyways, I guess I can figure out by looking/searching, but what does the Greddy profec B do? and I am assuming the black two port Greddy box ties in with it as well? Also I noticed on the highway when I downshift into 4th and take off I get somewhat of a popping sound and I briefly stop somewhat near the redline in the RPM range (haven't caught the exact time and it's only happened a few times). It's not like fuel cut though. Is this backfire? or just a boost leak? Lastly, fuel injectors seem to be stock, so what's the safe range of boost to run?
Also I did the Evo 8 ecu swap in my DSM and still have the Tactrix 2.0 cable. I briefly looked into this at work, but came across a pin out for the IX USDM ECU. Do I use pin 100 as the data pin to be able to reflash the ECU? Again completely novice here, but am willing to put in the time, and learn.
I'm sure I'll be like I was on DSMTuners, and just read, read, read until my eyes bleed lol.

misterevo8- I'll pull the plugs, and check the gap. I'll search for the gapping specs, and gap accordingly. I'll most likely end up doing a minor tune up i.e. oil change, plug and maybe plug wires. As far as having a Walbro, I am unsure at this point. I haven't had a nice day to go out, and check. Is it underneath the rear seat like a DSM?
RichieVegasIX- Thanks man! I think I'm gonna love the Evo life. All though, it seems like everyone wants to just race me for no reason around here lol.
Anyways, what are you guys running for oil/plugs/wires?

stock wires should be fine. i run NGK BPREIX iridium but i still regapped mine to .23 with full bolt ons, fuel pump and tuned 26psi stock turbo, are you near any evo specialist tuners? i would have a evo specialist take a look and log your car and see if it may need some tuning.
IIRC you should be able to use the Tactrix 2.0 cable without any mods. Connect to the OBDII port and the reflash connector under the drivers side of the dash. Download the latest version of EcuFlash ( 1.44.3 ) and use the newer .xmls though.
Also if you havent got it yet, pay the $25 for EvoScan 2.9. You can log, reset dtc and set the BISS properly, as well as using EvoScan with Maptracing and reflashing. You can pull the codes as well if you are setting any.
GL with everything.

misterevo8- Thanks for the info! I am in the area of a few performance oriented shops in the area, and I don't believe I'm too far away from Buschur as well. Quick question, did you mean I SHOULD be able to run around 25 psi on the stock pump, or the Walbro?
WRC-LVR- I'll work on using the Tactrix cable tomorrow. I'll have to reorder the reflash connector, but I'm sure I can rig something up from Radio Shack that'll work in the mean time. I already ordered EvoScan so I'm all set to go with that. What are the more important things I should be logging?

steveoreilly- That's funny you should mention it because Lenny told me that there was a serious buy from jersey looking at it. How come you didn't end up making the purchase?
Well I have been looking for an evo for a few months and I was checking the online ads pretty much daily. When the ad for your car first was posted, it stated that the car had 60000 miles, so with the price they had it listed for and that low of milage I called as soon as I saw it. The dealership confirmed the ad and also said that 30 people had already called about it. I told them I was coming from New Jersey and I would be there in about 3 hours. Off I went, pretty much with the intent of buying the car. I got there and the car looked great, a salesman approached me and said he would get the keys. When he came back he told me the acutual mileage of the car, I was pretty bummed and kinda had the feeling of being had by a dealership. I told him that would have been nice to know before I drove there from NJ. So we went for a test drive and the car felt great. The salesman didnt seem to know much about cars and started going on about how a gti
(vw dealership remember) is a much better handling/faster car then a lancer-I told him that I have had a few gti's and the evo is on a different level. I dont think he knows what an evo is lol. He disagreed and I kept my mouth shut (I was still a little angry about the incorrect online ad). On the test drive we went on a pretty open road and I did 1st 2nd 3rd to about half throttle each, the salesman was shocked! He couldnt believe how fast it was lol. When we got back to the dealership I told him to do himself a favor and look up evo on youtube. So long story short, basically between the mileage thing and the fact that I wanted a evo that was a little more stock, I decide to walk away. Anyway sorry about the long post, but I want you to know the whole story. Good luck with your new car it sure felt like a beast!

The low mileage, and the price is what caught my attention in the first place. I was really bummed when they said there was nearly double that
but it was the best thing I could find in the closest distance. Anyways, the first thing I noticed was the quality aftermarket parts. I was hoping for something more stock-ish as well, but there's always room for growth, and modification to my needs. I'm relieved to hear that you didn't buy it because of a mechanical problem.
