What should I be paying?

I'm a completely newbie to Mitsubishi's been in the car game for a little while owned my share of cars e36 m3,s14 540hp sr20,mkvi gti, currently walking and my next car is a throw up between an evo viii or ix or an s2000 if I don't find one.....What could I expect to get for $20k not really looking for a modded car rather it be as close to stock as possible.I know their is Kelley blue book but nobody goes by those numbers so I want to know from evo owners what should I expect to get. Thanks again.

It will be difficult to find a non modded VIII or IX for around $20k. You will probably be able to find a semi-modded high mile for $20k. I guess it all depends on your area but where I live you will very rarely find a good condition Evo for $20k and under.

I'm contemplating in putting my last bit of savings I have $5k in the actual car purchase I wanted to keep it for mods myself like coilovers, and wheels or should I shell it out and stick with the stockers for a little while.Would $5k make that breaking point of getting the clean Evo I dream of?Or would I be better off saving money getting a higher mileage and rebuilding the motor.

I would plan to pay around 23-24k for one like you want. I think anything under 70,000 miles would be fair as long as it has had the 60k service done.

Well I think it might be easier to find a lightly modded, under 80k miles if you have up to $25k to spend. It really seems to depend on your area. In my area there are not really alot of Evos and they are usually over priced.

Have you been searching dealerships, craigslist, autotrader, ebay, etc to see around how much they are?

Thats the issue with buying these cars used. You never know if it has been abused or not. It will always be a risk

I'm willing to travel anywhere in Florida and southern Georgia and Alabama.I'm in Tampa so it's already a 5 hour drive to the border.Im wiling to sacrifice a little I'd rather have a modded car then high mileage that's for sure but I'm not going to go out and buy a 600hp+ car or one that runs on ethanol.

I'm also looking and I'm also wanting to spend around 20k. I have a modified Jeep and a BMW 330i to sell before I can do anything though. I've seen several clean non-modded low mile VIII's for under 20k. It seems clean low mile IX's are between 23k-25k. I've also seen a few X's with around 60k on them for around 23k-24k. It also seems like 20k-23k is the sweet spot and the clean low mile evos in that price range sell really, really quick. Look down through the for sale section on this site and EvoX forums and you'll see the 20k cars with 2 or 3 replys and then the word SOLD

honestly, if i could do it all over again, i'd find one with low mileage with a bum clutch or something of that nature. the clutches in these cars suck, and will go out, there is no way around it. i saw a super clean 04 8 while i was looking. i think 32k miles, super clean, with a bad clutch for around 12k. wish i would have bought that one vs mine that ran fine and, i ended up paying roughly the same price with around 100k miles, and i've gone through 2 clutches.
