this is true but it also depends on how you/previous owner drives the car
if your looking at any used car doesn't matter what brand i would recommend bringing it to a shop to get it checked out
use good judgement, don't let your inner child get to you and buy on impulse because that can lead to disaster

I honestly loved my Evo 8 and it was a great DD in my eyes even if I had to replace my stock clutch at 62K. Yet when removing the clutch, the (previous) owner drove the car super hard because there were burnt stains on the OEM flywheel. As mentioned previously in this thread, people do tend to launch AWD drive cars. Maybe their stupid and not really caring what happens in the long run. I know with myself I NEVER launched my car and I owned it since 2010 to 2 weeks ago. Never had any issues since minus the little things, (A/C temp knob broke, timing belt, ball joints & etc).

I think the Evo 8's are easier to mod even when they are equipped with the 9.8T compared to the newer Evo's with the 10.5T. Tuners I've dealt with said the non-mivec heads were easier to tune yet now I'm sure there's A LOT more experience with the MIVEC head. Thank you IX's and X's lol Either way the 8/9's are amazing machines and a very solid platform
