More super newbie questions

Snows almost gone so I bought myself Meguiars one step gold class car wax.

I got 3 questions.
1.Do you apply the wax on the headlights etc. aswell?
2.Im pretty sure you arent suppose to get any on the rubber lining around the windows right?

Heres the most important one. Im not exactly sure about this 'remove' step when waxing the car. You apply the wax(Ive read one place that says to apply it in a side to side motion, and another that says circular, both from detailing shops) and then.. you let it dry, and then buff out the excess?

3 You buff it off so that you don't get clumps of it.

Im guessing theres a specific time when you have to do this right? I heard that if you leave it on too long.. it'll get too hard and you wont be able to buff it out. Is theres some kind of reference point or something.
