Was in the market for a 350Z and all about the looks, but some how I ended up with an EVO. The deal with Nissan didnt go thought and I went to take a look at the EVO because a friend mention it. Before I got the EVO, I had no idea what it is. I know little about turbo cars and careless about handling or speed. I just want a nice car with some speed and it has to be standard. The more I waited, the greater my ambition grew. I started out wanting a Matrix. Yes, toyota Matrix, dont laught at me please. hahahha, I laught at myself!!!! Ahh, how dumb I was. Then I moved on to an RSX-S and then the 350Z. Now I ended up with an EVO8. No idea how that've happened, but I didnt regret it. Ilove this car, but unfortunately, I will never own another mitsu again, unless they change their attitudes. Mitsu service department and design department are down right crappy. My dream evo is the sparco evo8!!! My evo will look like that when I graduate from college and if I still own it. Peace....

I've always been a fan of the bad guys in movies, TV shows, books. Darth Vader sits on my desktop, stretching out his hand to Luke offscreen. In the Japanese manga/anime called InitialD, one of the more serious threats to the hero of the story is a street racing gang called the Emperors, and they drive various Lan Evo's and mercilessly slam anybody who drives anything else.

I'm not like that in real life, but I am like that inside my head, so I figured the American Spec Evo would be a good match for me.

Another reason I got this rig was because I'm used to reckless driving on gravel country roads. In order to get away with this kind of driving, you had to have something with all wheel drive, and that could take the punishment. Something that's been through WRC would probably qualify, I reckoned. You could have one buddy leaning out the passenger window with a baseball bat, while 3 more buddies are whooping it up in the back seat. Not that I'd encourage such behavior.

The last reason I use to justify this purchase to myself was because this punk kid I work with got an Sti, and I didn't want to be a copycat but wanted to get something that'd take the wind out of his sails. Reckon it worked, he hasn't stopped giving me crap about my car since I drove it to work.

So essentially you're saying that "There was a disturbance in the force...".

Yeah, me too.

For me, it came down to wanting something different. So many of my friends, as they age, settle for the traditional luxury sedan. It's almost what's expected of you when you turn 40. The AWD turbo-charged sedans coming from Mitsubishi and Subaru represet a revolution in the mindset of car enthusiasts. Even though they've been around for over a decade, the stranglehold that RWD pony cars with monstrous displacement engines in the US has presented the biggest challenge to acceptance amongst the automotive elite. That is finally changing, and it's kind of fun to be in on the initial wave. Fifty years from now, the introduction of the Evo and the WRX/STi are going to be looked upon as a turning point in American automotive history.

Aside from that, the Evo offers itself as one of the finest pure driving cars on the planet. We make a big deal about how quick they are or how easy they are to modify. While that's all true, there is a singular pleasure that one gets from jjust everyday driving that very few automobiles can provide. I imagine Porsches have it, and I know the more sporting BMWs and Audis do too. Its the way the car attacks a curve, the way it responds to your most subtle steering inputs, and the way it provides feedback of the road you are on. If you look at a car as more than just a comfortable appliance, then the Evo quickly rises to the top of the heap.

After living in Japan for 10 years, I got hooked on the compact sports cars. Since I couldn’t bring one back with me, (without spending mad $$$) I waited till they came here.
I was on the EVO/Sti fence for a while, but once I drove the EVO, that was it.
Been happy ever since.

I checked other - my wife told me I needed to get rid of my Celica GT-S and get a 4-door that seats five. After arguing for two weeks I told her I wouldn't be buying a #$%#$%# Taurus... She thought the SRT-4 and STi were ugly so I got the car I wanted all along...

Happy as hell and she's ... well, happy it has 4 doors and seats 5... =D

Because I ski and track cars which left me with these choices:
A4
330Xi
Evo
WRX
STI
S4
911 Turbo

and well I could afford the two that actually moved and didnt look like a butt hole so I got the best performance left and said to hell with looks.

I drive recklessly. I admit it. I was always a fan of FF's and My last car was an '01 civic LX Sleeper. I never cared for drag racing i prefered rally style, something that requires some skill (not to start a flame war here, just MO). I also carry a lot of gear around with me for work. so I had a 4 door civic with lots of suspension work done to it and I knew how to use it. anyway, One of my temmates scoped out a road and we decided to tackle it (not uncommon for us). at about 2am we tried this road out for about 10 miles (beautiful road, hella curves, switchbacks, the whole nine) we stopped and started joking about whose lines were better and my friends started messing with me about promoting FF's (they have MR's and FR's). then we drove home at the posted speed (honest). it was downhill on the way back so we were being careful (pretty steep). I came around a corner, it was sharper than I thought, I hit some sand, my tires were in pretty bad shape after the hard driving, I hit the cliff face doing about 15 mph. I just happened to hit at the right angle, broke off my driver front tire, folded it under the car and pressed it thru the firewall. Insurance totalled the car. (first accident ever, never even had a speeding ticket)

I was going to get another civic (I still love FF) but I needed four doors for sure. A buddy recommended that since I have always been a fan of Rally, I should get an Evo. I didn't even know they were being released in the US. I tried it and I was hooked. The Evo had a lot more back seat space than the STi which was the clincher for me. I still drive agressivley. It's just more amazing for me now.

(I would never advise anyone to drive recklessly on open roads. Do as I say, not as I do!!! )

P.S. Since I bought the Evo, My friends introduced me to Initial D. I have become hooked on the series. Go Team Emperor! WOOT!

I bought a 99 Cobra and found out that while the brakes and HP were great, it wasn't the "road car" it was supposed to be. At least not without 5000 bucks in suspension upgrades.

I wanted a car which did not waste weight on warmed leather power operated seats, sunroofs and cruise control but were pure performance cars. I also needed enough room to stretch my legs on long drives and be comfortable. The EVO hit almost all of these criteria.

So far, I've been pretty happy about it.

What is this Initial D???? Where can I get a copy? It sounds like a lot of fun...

I bought my Evo because I have watched in for years in Rallys and have always wanted one. It has 4 doors, a nice size trunk, it is fast, handles great, is farily rare, and looks awesome. The easy modding thing I found out later and wow what a perk...
