Bought my dream car!!!
Bought my dream car!!!
After spending years browsing the forums I finally pulled the trigger and bought a 2014 Evo X GSR. I bought the car in Ohio and imported it into Canada. It was a lot more work then I thought it would be, but it was completely worth it.
The Evo is my first manual car as well, and I only had a few hours of experience learning on a friends car around a year ago. It was a bit of an adventure trying to get back to the border on time because I wasn’t used to driving standard and the power that this car makes. I ended up arriving at the border just in time, otherwise I would have had to have spent the weekend in the US.
Since then, I have finished the break in period and the car is incredibly fun. People look at me like i’m crazy when I tell them I spent the entire weekend cruising, but once they come along for a drive they understand. I’m looking forward to all the adventures I am going to have in this car - I am planning to go to Tail of the Dragon this summer if I have time.
For the Canadians on here, I live in the GTA. I was wondering if any of you guys go to autocross events or meets/cruises because I am looking into attending some this spring/summer.
Here's a few pictures

From a friends car who came along for the trip. That was probably the most fun I have ever had sitting in line - everyone was staring at my car and pointing at the Brembos.

So far, I have installed some rally armor mud flaps. I have plans for the future, but I’m going to hold off for now until I am able to reach the potential of the stock Evo.

The handling on this car car is ridiculous. I’m running Dunlop Wintersport 4D’s and the grip never ends. It can literally plow through snow almost up to the hood.

A typical Canadian Winter

Congrats on your purchase!
I too bought a 2014 GSR in December. It has always been my dream car and never thought I'd own one at this point in time. My old 1989 Jetta started breaking down and I thought I would be buying a Civic or Hyundai for the time being, but things fell into place and I was able to pickup my dream car. It was my first big "adult" purchase.
Getting in the Evo everyday to drive to work is something I look forward to.
Enjoy and congrats again!

Thanks and congrats to both of you as well
The Evo was my first big purchase too. It was a bit nerve racking heading to Ohio having never driven the car, but I was sold on it before they even gave me the keys for the test drive. Ptown, the Toronto auto show is going on next weekend so you should definitely go if you get a chance.

Is it new? My understanding was that, according to an investigation by the CBC, if you go to the states to purchase a NEW car and import it into Canada they wont sell to you. Did you have any trouble? How did it go?

Thomar, yeah the car is new. A lot of the dealers wouldn't sell to me if they were particularly close to the border - they told me that they were under pressure to not sell to Canadians. Spitzer, the dealer I went to had no problem doing it though. If you're planning on importing a car and have any questions let me know.
Maybe 4bangn is on his phone? For some reason I can't see the pictures on my thread if I am on my phone.
