Buying 2011 GSR - extended service plan?

Hey Guys,

Just got approved for financing on a 2011 white GSR w/ 28k miles. I'm about to close the deal, but the dealer is asking about an extended service plan. Right now I don't have plans to mod the vehicle. What are your thoughts, is it worth the money since there is a 5yr/60k mile powertrain warranty?

"Its usually the peripheral systems that need servicing more often, typically the more delicate and expensive, electronic components. The Platinum Plan addresses virtually everything on the EVO that could go wrong, from a window switch to the NAV to the ECM. My dealership cost on that plan for 72 months and 72,000 miles is $2,888, I would need just a 1% ($28.88) margin on that because we are shipping the EVO to you."

I attached what the platinum warranty excludes.

Let me know if you guys think it's worth getting this extended service plan, and I look forward to joining the Evo X community very soon

I don't think it's worth it. It's basically adding one year and 12,000 miles to the existing powertrain warranty while also increasing the bumper-to-bumper warranty (which is probably expired anyway) up to the extended term... which at this point is pretty much another three years.

All of that for $2,888 doesn't really seem worth it, to me.

Yeah after reading through the exclusions I ended up turning down the extended service plan. It still has the factory powertrain warranty too.

What if the car has 59,000 miles, same year model? Would it be worth considering then?

That car would be in the same boat, so no, especially if you drive more than 12,000 miles a year, which would exceed the warranty limits pretty quickly.

oh, right because the b-to-b warranty is 3/36,000 so it's way past gone and all that's left is powertrain. Not worth the cost for piece of mind I suppose. I haven't had the discussion yet with the finance guy so I am not sure what their actual cost will be. I know I'll be driving more than 12,000/year because it will be a DD.

I think the extended warranty does also include the bumper-to-bumper warranty as well... though I'm not sure if it applies if it has already expired (whether due to months, mileage or both).

Either way, it's a BIG gamble for almost $3,000, which pretty much covers any serious repair shy of your entire engine going bye-bye.
