Go test drive both. I've been surprised at some of the cars I've taken out that I thought I'd love & then hated, & vice versa.

Ya. I agree with most cars, but then again i guess it is a performance car not specifically for comfort. But man, i am just so in love with that hood scoop and wing.

Nothing wrong with getting the STI if you like it lol. Just be aware if an Evo rolls up on you you're most likely going to get blasted.

I see you're in Colorado. If you do decide to get an STI I would take it to someone like The BoostCreep or Revolutions performance to have them check it out before buying. Don't want to buy one with a cracked ringland and not realize it until it's too late. You can also do quick testing yourself, have the car running and take off the oil cap, if there are puffs of smoke coming out of it steer clear.

No worries man, if you're in Fountain Revolutions should be right down the road. They did all the tuning on my STI and I never had an issue.

Ya. Its only like 5 blocks away. There aren't very many 2005 STi's for sale right now in Colorado tho. I found a couple of them stock with like 80-90k on them for like 18-25k dollars. Evos seem to be more prevalent

My car is bone stock. Seats are soft and dont really hold you when you corner hard. Due to the springs in them, when you creep along in stop and go traffic you bounce up and down. Rear struts clunk.

Engine itself is fine, I like the low end torque driving around town. Transmission feels really nice, but it does have some trouble going into gear when its cold outside.

The STI steering is not that responsive. I came from the 350z, and I know its apples to oranges. But I miss the more neutral handling characteristics of that car. I have driven my friend's 2005 sti which has every brace upgraded that I can think of, sway bars, and whatever else short of a new steering rack. Even then, it handles the same as my Z.

Overall, its a great car. It snowed a lot in VA this year and the AWD was nice to have, even with all season tires. If I could, I would have both cars (Evo and STI)

I'll be the devils advocate, being that I own an 03 evo and my older brother an 04 sti and we swap every now and again.

It boils down to what you want out of the car. For dd with light mods I vote sti hands down. It was just easier to drive on a daily sounds damn good and that tq! We have about same mods intake tbe and access port and he was able to slightly pull me every time no matter from dig or a roll. Now throw some curves in the mix and I was able to stay a bit ahead.

But if your looking for a track car or weekend warrior I'll go evo every time. Sooooo much easier to work on mods are easy to install parts are pretty cheap. Granted if you want over 400ft-tq you'll have to build the motor but again that isn't too expensive.

Evos have great motors but weak trannys while sti have weak motors but great trannys
Hope that helps some!

I still don't get why people say the STI is better for a DD? Between the crappy seats and bobble head they create along with 0 top end my Evo is a dream to drive on my commute in comparison.

Evo VIII by a landslide if you want a performance car.

Yea, I have found the bobble head in the STI to be annoying. It only seems to happen when you are creeping along during stop and go traffic. Other than that, the ride is comfortable during cruising.

How is the evo 8 and 9 ride? Does it get tiring on long drives? I heard the stock recaro's don't have a lot of cushioning. I will probably have to drive out of state to find a good unmolested Evo 8/9 so maybe I should bring a back pillow...jk

Nice! Good luck with that, should make a nice project. My friend is doing that right now with his wrecked 05 sti.

My brother has an 05 sti and I have an 05 Evo. Like people have said, transmission and engine are the main difference. I bought my evo after having 2 wrx's and the aftermarket support of the evo is a fraction of the size of the Subaru.

I have also completely stripped a Subaru and have no got that far with the evo... yet...
