2005 WRX STi vs Evo 8
I know, i know. I am just curious between the two because i am entering the market for one of these and don't know which one to choose. I am using it as kind of like a hobby car. You know the ones that you soup up and take out for some track days? or for a weekend spin? Also what would be a good price range for a used one? I'm on a strict budget, so i would like to try to get the cheapest one that isnt too beat up. Also, which car would be better for the long run? Pros and cons for each car?
The STI's ive seen for sale normally sell at a premium to the evo's of the same year I've found. The STI interior is more refined IMO and if you just want to get bolt-ons and daily driving I'd go STI. The evo would be cheaper to build if you intend to increase the performance beyond bolt-ons. I actually have love for both cars but the Evo would be my first choice.
Broad generalizations:
Evo Transmission < STI
Evo engine (stock block can handle more power)> STI

You can't argue with logic.
In all seriousness, though, the EVO vs STI comparison is an ongoing debate and in many cases comes down to individual preference. I, for one, don't care that much for the 'cheap' feel of the EVO's interior...though I have never personally sat in an STI to make an accurate comparison. Performance-wise they are neck and neck out of the box, with the STI being a better straight-line car and the EVO catching it in the corners. At least that WAS the case. Not sure how they stack up against one another over the past couple year models.

I went from an 05 STI to an Evo 9 so sorta what you're asking. The only things I miss about my STI are the Boxer rumble and the stock clutch. My STI was going on 100k miles when I traded it in, was at stage 2 power levels and was still going strong on the stock clutch. My Evo made it to around 55k before giving out which is to be expected i guess since my Evo is making more power than my STI was.
My STI was a great car but I would have a really hard time going back to one after owning an Evo.
Sit in an Evo and then sit in an STI... One has Recaros and one has knockoff Recaros that were made for "fat Americans". Every performance car I have owned has had a cheap feel to the interior, why do you think Chevy can make the Z06 perform with a Ferrari for 1/5 of the price?

My Evo is putting down almost 400 TQ to the wheels so I think 55k miles is pretty decent.
I wouldn't say bad, I mean my Mustang made it a whole 18k miles on the stock clutch at stock power levels lol. I guess you could say it was a bad driver and or abuse but my 240SX made it to 130k on the stock clutch and my STI made it to 100k, so I guess I can drive ok.

How'd you like your Sti when you had it? Pros and cons please
Pros: Great exhaust note, very reliable, great Transmission.
Cons: Seats are pure garbage and are the worst part about the car, makes less power with similar mods as my Evo, harder to work on IE: changing spark plugs, top end power was really lacking with the stock turbo.
