Which evo?

Hey guys, I am new to the forum. Looking into buying an evo X. I currently have a 2006 wrx sti but am going to test drive a couple evo's this weekend. I have found two that I like but I am not sure which is a better deal. I'm not familiar with the evo platform, only know a lot about my subaru.

White

Do either of these look like a good deal? If so which one is a better deal? It kind of seems like the white one is but I am not 100% positive.

Also, anything you guys spot wrong with either of these or things that I should look out for assuming I fall in love and want to trade in my STI for one?

Thanks for all the help! it is really appreciated.

If I had to pick between the two, I would go for the 2013 MG one. It is a year newer, has less miles, and has the SS and illumination package.

The white one is a base model with the interior package and is a year older and has higher mileage.

But since you are in the DFW area, I would go check out Don Herring. I bought my Evo there brand new and they took off almost $4k from the MSRP. I think you can get a new Evo for less than the two you posted a link for. And since it is a new car, you would probably get a better interest rate.

PM me if you want to use my salesman. I think I get like $100 if I refer you and I will split it with you.

As stated above, you can get a brand new one for less than those two.

I'm a little confused how you guys are stating I can get a brand new one for less than these? Every new evo I have looked at has been considerably more than 28 to 33k. My ideal situation was spending 30k or less.

Where are these new cheap evos?

On the Don herring site most of them were mid to upper 30s.

MSRP on a base model is 34.9k.

Most dealers are offering at least 3 (some offer up to 5 depending on where you are) grand off of MSRP, there is nothing "cheap" about it, that is just what they are selling for.

Don't know bank practices in state of Texas, but in California used car loans have higher loan rates. If credit is good you might be able to get a new X and offset the price by lower rates that usually come with new cars. That's if you are financing the vehicle. In my case lower rate on a new X had cheaper payment than buying a used one due to higher loan rates on used vehicles.

Hmm okay thank you both. I'm emailed some dealers to discuss pricing. Hopefully I can find a nice white GSR for around the price I am looking for. Are there any advantages to the 13 or 14s aside from being a little newer? Also, what are the main packages that make a REAL difference on the interior. From what I have seen there is the SSS package that gets the leather interior, aside from that are the interiors all the same?

I just want a nicer interior than my 06 sti and something that can perform better to bolt ons without having to build the engine.

For Don Herring, don't go by the website. In my situation, they took a lot more money off than what the website showed. You would need to contact someone at Don Herring and show your interests in the car. They may make you do a credit application so they know you are serious and have the required credit.

I did not realize you were looking for under $30k as the first Evo you posted is showing at $34k. That Evo is the MG one with the SS package. Don Herring has two 2014 GSR's (with SS) in their inventory for $37,800. One is even MG like the used one you posted. If they take $4k off like they did on my purchase, then they would be about about $34k, which is the price of the used one you posted.

You also posted a 2012 WW base model, that is about $30k. Don Herring has a few 2014 GSR base models and they are priced at about $36k. If they take $4k off, then it would be about $32k. And personally I would rather pay $2k more for a brand new Evo that is 2 years newer and has 16k miles less than the used one you posted.

I bought my Evo from them in April of 2013, so I do not know if they are still as aggressive in the pricing. But make sure you keep in mind the overall price. So even if a new Evo costs you $2k more than a used one, if you get a lower interest rate because of the car being new, you may make up that $2k throughout the loan period.

I bought mine for about $37.7k. It has the SS, SL, interior, and illumination packages. They by far had the best pricing in Texas and willingly took that amount of money off with very little negotiation on my part. Overall it was a very good experience with them.

The main difference with the 14 is the new radio touch screen deal.

The interior is just whatever you prefer, leather or fabric.

Thanks again. Yeah I just meant I would have preferred X amount of Y amount. But if it comes down to it and I test drive it and decide to get rid of the sti then I may very well just spend the extra money especially, as you said, if it has a lower interest rate.

Now if I got a new one though, the warranty would be void I take it if I did any mods. Well, if mitsu holds up any warranty offers anyways. Ive heard that is hit or miss?

The SS is a good package IMO. You get the keyless entry/start, hid's, and the RF sound system.

But as for interior upgrades, the Evo's don't have many. The interior package gets you the aluminum shifter and ebrake. They are pretty nice but IMO not really worth the extra money, especially considering you will probably change out the shifter for a weighted one. The aluminum shifter with that package has additional weight when compared to the black base model knob, but it is not nearly enough.

I love the SL (know called the SSS) package. I use my sunroof all the time and the leather seats definitely improve the interior IMO. That package also adds some sound dampening which I noticed when I went from a base model X to my current X. It also gets these two little door cubbies by the shifter. But it will be hard pressed to find an Evo with this package close to the $30k range.

You can also get the navigation package which adds a little more class to the interior. I like the navigation but IMO that thing is way overpriced, so I opted not to get it.

The illumination package adds led bulbs to the dome and map lights and adds blue led's in the floor well. IMO this package is useless but I got it on mine because it was the same price as another Evo that didnt have that package.

There is very few difference between the 13's and 14's. The biggest one was the touch screen radio. The 2013's do not have them. I am not a fan of that radio and personally think it looks like some cheap ebay china radio. But it does give you the double dash which makes it easier to change out to an aftermarket one if you so choose.

The 2012's plus get the leather trimmed doors and Piano black accents standard. The 2008's-2011's get the carbon fiber trim and hard velvet looking door accents.

Yah, most of the time it just depends on the dealership when it comes to casual warranty work. But if it is a large repair, say blown engine for example, you can bet Mitsu corporate will try and find any reason to deny your warranty claim. As many have stated, if you want a sure warranty, keep it stock. Dont even mess around with a cobb ap OTS tune.

With that said, Don Herring is probably one of the most lenient when it comes to casual mods and warranty work. They also have really good knowledgeable Evo techs.
