Hi and welcome!

Way back in '03 I was on the waiting list for either an STI or Evo, the Evo was the first to arrive in the states which I bought. I think most STI owners who have switched found the Evo easier to modify. Plus our little engine block can handle insane amounts of boost with proper internal upgrades. Have fun!

For me it was a couple things. Something different partially... but also because 4g63 engines are very tough and very efficient...

Not to mention the 5 speed driveline is also very tough. In many ways they are easier to work on (though doing a trans or clutch on an sti is super easy). But cams, plugs, turbo, exhaust, injectors etc. are much easier on an EVO. I feel like the STi is a little more refined (quieter ride). The EVO is a little more of a tank.

Both are seriously good cars. If you are going to leave them both stock, the STi makes for a nice, reliable car. If you are going to mod a little, either is good, but the more you mod one, the better off you are with the EVO imo.

I was on a list to buy the car which came to the US first, STI or Evo. I was leaning toward the Evo because I was familiar with my brothers '93 VR4 Gallant. The Evo came i n first.
