Hey there, i'm new here

Hey guys, my name's Tyler and i'm stationed in Okinawa with the Army. I just recently sold my 99 FD (single GT35R twin scroll 400whp) because it was pretty sketchy for me to own. Not only was it super expensive, if I was caught having 'too much' fun, it was the end of my career since there are no tracks out here.

In the mean time I'm busy saving up and being indecisive about what car to buy in the states for mostly track use. Evo,V8 S14, V8 FD, NSX ... it's all so many options!

Anyway, I sell some wheels here and there to buy the time until I get back stateside.I thought that since Evo guys seem to be rocking a lot of BBS LMs i'd post up some stuff that you guys might like (since BBS' are my favorite wheels)

I'm pretty sure R32s are the only cars I've ever seen broken down on the side of the road on base. And I've seen that 5 times over.

I think rb engines are plenty reliable. The cars are just old now. Its just like the 4g63 is reliable but finding a gsx/t eclipse thats reliable is like a diamond in the rough. As cars get older and more affordable they fall into the wrong hands. High school kids wanting "race cars" with no real money to work on or maintain them to the high standards they need to be. You have to remember at one point a skyline was a almost 40k car that can now be had for around 3000 dollars in Japan. Same goes with any good car getting cheap means getting ruined.

Very valid point, but at the same time they are expensive to maintain, with parts at a premium. Also, there are several expensive mods the must be done before you can get serious on the track (ex: tomei oil pump), unlike the evo that's ready to go stock.

The absolute cheapest you can get one on any given day (not on auction) is about 6-7k. It's not a lot for the dream car status that it holds for many people. It's just not my cup of tea.

Oh man, Sorry you had to let the FD slip through. Though certainly you would not want the boot.

Where are you stationed at on the island?

Personally I'd start shopping around for a good IX to come home to. Though it depends on where you are stationed. (Evo for foul weather)

I'd be careful with the V8 S14s, likely going to be drift-rat owned, potentially scarey wire jobs, certainly hidden rust/damage/what-have-you.

V8 FDs can be super pricey. Some are hack jobs, and assuming you don't want one of those you'll be looking to pay a pretty penny. Norotors is your home to play in though if that's the route you want. I've got a LS1 FC that's yet to fire up that is the mix of two horrible aborted V8 projects I've picked up after different people who got lost. (one a 5.0 that'd be carbed to avoid too much hassle..the other mid swapped LS that was rusting and had no wiring done or trans)

Frankly despite my limited time of ownership I think you'd have a hard time beating the daily grind of a Evo, though the 6th gear LS MPGs are attractive.

That does sound like a disaster. After second thoughts, I may have to stray away from the swapped cars. As was my experience doing the single turbo swap and tune, having your car down for vast amounts of time is just down right aggravating.

I'm stationed on Kadena with 1-1 ADA, but am moving to Torii Station with 10th RSG. Were you out on the island previously?

I was actually born on the island and we went back for a later tour.

Definitely familiar with Kadena of old.

I mean if the swapped car is done and already on the road and reliable. LS1s are a work-horse engine. They just keep running and doing fine with oil and gas. Tight fit though. That much is true, and you get a lot of heat through the fire-wall.
