Shipping Carriers
I have not shipped an Evo, but I have had a Supra shipped from FL to VA. It was a pain to find a reliable carrier because most of the shipping companies I contacted were just brokers. In other words, they acted as the middlemen to ship the car. They send out a shipping request to a nationwide database once you agree to pay them to ship your car. At that point, carrying contractors pick up the job according to pick up and drop off location. Its hard to tell whether your car will be shipped on the back of some random guys car trailer or if it will be shipped in a legitimate car trailer by an experience carrier. Of course, if you are willing to pay more there are more reliable forms of shipping a car. My budget was $1k so I didn't have this luxury. Needless to say, my Supra arrived completely unharmed. If you search online you will find tons of companies that will ship your car.
Its all dependant on the distance involved and what kind of carrier you are looking for exterior or interior...it will jump even more. My limit was also 1k when I originally started looking for carriers. I checked out: http://www.uship.com/

When I was active duty, I moved quite a bit. I've used a broker, Mercury, a couple of times. Price was good, but you really don't know what you're going to get with the driver and shipping company. One time, the driver was "foreign" and the language barrier was an issue during the process. The broker was supportive but useless, and I had to call the shipping company myself to get updates and to arrange pick up. My cars arrived at their destination without any damage both times.
More recently I used an enclosed shipper, Reliable carriers. Reliable was easier to work with, white glove treatment, with constant updates. They were expensive, but worrying about my cars was the last thing I want to deal with in the middle of a move.

Thanks for all of the quick replies. So i guess its safe to say that 1k would be a decent budget? Not really looking to buy a brand new Evo, more of a fixer-upper, so i dont really need all of those luxuries.

yes, 1k is a decent budget, but once again, make sure the carrier provides an insurance for the transport. As I remember, a friend of mine used Montway and the price was about 1k and all went good. Just do your research and don't go for the cheapest price!
