Proud new owner of an EVO VIII
So about a week ago I picked up my 03 Evo 8 GSR wit only 77,000 mi. It was a long and stressful week as the search and purchase of the car was not a simple one. I live in NJ and found this one in Queens NY. It was an annoying drive but the car seemed nice and was aggressively priced. When I checked it out it was mostly stock with just a tune (supposedly 320whp) Recirculated HKS SSQV3, slightly lowered, and the biggest mod was an EVO 9 turbo and upper and lower pipes. The car idled smooth, pulled hard, and drove nice. I haggled a bit and after a little fussing with the bank bought the car. I was thrilled!
Until the next day on my way to work, I noticed that when warm it would stall on deceleration... But I figured it was either a bad tune or someone messed with the idle screw... Then as I was almost at work it began making a ticking noise after I pulled away from a light. I had not driven the car hard, I had not taken the motor above 7000 even once. soo at first I thought maybe it was a loose flywheel bolt as a new clutch was just put in. But after only a few minuets of driving all hopes were crushed as it became obvious the car had spun a bearing.....
So I called up Evolution Motorsports in Queens that I talked to when buying the car and they helped me out big time! http://evolutionmotorsportsnyc.blogspot.com/ They picked up the car talked to me about my options and in the end I decided on a Built 4G64 2.4 block since it would have to be taken out anyway (and it would be done sooner than a rebuild as they already had the block ready) They were very helpful and professional. They worked fast, and delivered that car to me when finished. And its AMAZING! I'm still in the 500mi brake in and have not used more then 10% throttle but it feels great. I know I shouldn't get so excited till the car is broken in and tuned but it just drives sooo nice. Idle is smoother then when I first saw the car. It feels amazing off boost and wants to spool with even the lightest throttle. I can't wait to finish the break in, get it tuned and really enjoy it! So far my experience with them has been great, and i would recommend anyone in the area to check them out.
My short term goals are only 350whp which should be easy with the 2.4 and I don't plan on drag racing it as I've had enough of breaking things at the track with my previous car.(04 SRT-4) I do plan on eventually trying autocross and maybe a small road course but for now I just want a fun DD and this should do the trick nicely
Hoping to have better pics as soon as weather permits.

Welcome and wow!
Thank you for the detailed intro and pic! That is quite a story about both bad luck and good fortune concerning the car broke and the dealer helped you out. Good luck with your car!

Welcome! 'Sorry to hear about your 'rough start' with your Evo! It is VERY rare to have a shop do what they did to support a customer...Usually as soon as you sign on the line, it's pretty much you are on your own! where about are you in 'Jersey? North, or South? Best of luck and have lots of fun with your Evo!
I'm in north Jersey. Yea I really appreciate how much the shop helped and how professional they were. They explained everything to me calmly and clearly and didn't seem to mind at all the near constant questions I was asking while trying to make my decision regarding rebuild or built. (I was nervous about a built block at first since this would be a DD)
Over all I am very glad with my decision to go with them and the 2.4 4G64 block. I do wish I had just a little more time to experience the factory motor but I'm not to upset about it. I will be going with a shop that they use in NJ for the tune when I'm broken in.
