I have both. An unmodified manual M3 E46 is an amazing car on its own right, and more fun to drive than an unmodified Evo. However if you`re planning on modifying or tracking it, Evo is the way to go: cheaper to run and maintain, much bigger aftermarket, more performance per money spent.
If you just want to go fast in a straight line (like it seems you do since the M3 is "slow" by your standards) I`d consider a Camaro SS or Mustang GT and modify that.

You're on an Evo forum, so everyone here will say to buy the Evo. The BMW forums will say BMW, so there ya pretty much have it

It’s safety first

I have a Evo 10 and I really understand what the other experienced owners are trying to explain. It’s a fun car but the fact that once you get a taste of an actual 400whp power awd car you may rethink it!

I've had both and they are both totally different cars, and assuming money isn't an issue for mods etc, it will depend on what you prefer. Drive both and see which you like more.
