A little about myself, I currently own a white 04 350z and before this car I had a red ap1 s2k but since I was a kid, every game I played, Auto Modellista, Toyko Extreme Racer, Gran Turismo, Midnight club, Need For Speed, etc. I would always pick an Evo to build. I am the youngest of three boys in my family and both of my older brothers right now have graphite grey Evo 9s.
Reason I joined today is because I may potentially be owning my dream car this weekend and be the last brother to finally get an Evo!
(Evo Bro's!!).
I live in St.Pete, FL and tonight I am driving up to Atlanta, GA with a trailer to check out a 2006 Evo 9 SSL Rally Red w/ 151k miles.
The seller said the timing belt snapped due to unknown reasons but recently got it repaired, ( reman head, new belt, tensioner, pulley, water pump, head gasket )
I received a copy of the receipt of $1500 in repairs which imo is kind of low? but I wouldn't know. He says the pistons was not damaged and the turbo and waste-gate doesn't smoke. With all that said, the seller is asking 16k. I'm really interested because its my favorite color and it already has the Jdm rear bumper, exterior looks to be in "mint" condition, as well as the interior/ leather seats. My oldest brother tells me to stay away but my other brother tells me to check it out. I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes, I'll post pictures and explain my experience with this seller.

Welcome to the board. I'm also in Tampa. I own a JDM Evo IV RHD. To be honest, with that many miles, I would be weary. Unless it is in pristine condition and doesn't need anything, it could be worth it. Also, since you are interested in the car being that it is red, it might be worth more to you than someone else who would want a different color persay. Be thorough when you look the car over and any red flags that you see, use that as a bargaining chip. Good luck.

Hey guys, the seller just informed me that the car ticks/knocks in first gear only and doesn't do it at idle.... seller says he has seen other Evo's with the same issue. I'm not sure about this one now, any thoughts on this or advice would help, I read that it might be a 1st gear tooth? I have no idea. I have a video of the car, not sure how I would be able to show you guys.

 

I would definitely pass. The transmission is going to need to come out and at a $16,000 price tag, that is way too much money. I would start looking elsewhere in my opinion.

 

If the EvO is clean & this ticking issue is the only issue, you can consider having a shop, that is familiar w/EvOs, to give it a full inspection (will cost some money of course)

Just because it may have an issue, doesnt mean you have to walk away from it. Just make sure the negotiated price reflects the known issues
