New to the forum, and have issues in timing / gauges
Hello my name is Mouead and i recently joined after our lancer just got ****ed and i thaught that this is the place where i could get help in fixing it or using it as a sim rig. My brothers car might be ****ed and if i cant fix it i got permission to take whatever, i will try fixing the timing and se if the pistons, valves and head is still working or if they are ****ed. if i need to scrap it i will take the gauges but i dont know the serial codes to bench the gauges. i really want to use it to make a sim rig setup. i wonder if any of you know the codes or might be able to record the can messages for me. (lancer ix(2007) 2.0 GDI sport (4g63).
or if any one have encountered the same issue, so we were driving normally and then the timing belt gave upp ( it is old and needed to be changed but the weather makes it very difficult to work on cars). then we went ahead and tried starting it a few times before realizing what have happend. so i wonder if the head, valves and pistons are ****ed or if there is a chance and how hard is it to adjust the timing back to normal.

Hey! If is highly likely that if the timing belt let go the engine is wrecked. These are interference engines so its likely the pistons kissed the valves and it would need a rebuild.
As for the gauges, I think the best thing to do would be pull them out and start looking. If that cluster is similar to US stuff, I think that they are a pretty simple gauge set without any real communication protocol and instead just use voltage to turn stuff on and off.

Well i am waiting for the Weather to be better or for my brother to just give up which is not the thing i want. I do suspect that the pistons and the valves have kissed but i still have hope for this car. But if it isnt fixable for a low amount i will probably just pull out everything. I also want the Steering wheel as a reminder but the problem is the airbag. I wonder if i can pull the horn pad from the airbag safely or if it is safer to just have a Mechanic for a hundred bucks if they accept.
It will probably need a head and pistons so it won't be a cheap fix. Honestly depending on location, finding a replacement engine might be cheaper.
As for the airbag, I don't quite understand the issue. Disconnect the battery, give it 30 minutes and pull it out. Keeping the horn pad without the bag might be tough/impossible but you can likely just leave the bag in there for a sim.

Well having it in a sim wheel like mine means that its near electricity and movement which might be Dangerous and hanging it on the wall is not as Dangerous but its not as fun and it dosent remind me of the car as much as having the car itself or having the Wheel gauges and a couple of other stuff for my sim.

Unfortunately it's not an evo its just a normal /sport trim lancer with a 4g63 without a turbo ans with only 135hp. My brother bought it for 1.5k dollars and a one with the same engine costs 4k and the engine is probably 1-2k and it will require paperwork and stuff. Therefore if the pistons or the valves are damaged we will just salvage it and then scrape it.
