im not sure if this is a problem with my car,or normal.my lancer es used to do 120mph an 1 time i was doing 120 ,wit gaslight on,an couple min later something smelt burnt.havent had smell ever happen since then an car runs fine,but when i try 2 push it,it only does 110 now,onlything different since i last did 120 was changed tires an sparkplugs,any1 have any theories? ideas?

idk, i kinda had the same prob, but i was in the country and i got the car to 125+ i stopped lookin at the speedometer then and started changing songs... i know im stupid!!! thanx.... but it smelled like sumthin was burning.... but that was completly stock... w/ the new intake, cat, and exhaust.... it seems fine at 125ish. idk maybe take it to ur dealer and see... remember your car is still under warrenty even if you add aftermarket parts, as long as they aren't the cause for/of the problem.

coud be temperature, could be wind, could be you were actually going up or down a hill slightly. Make sure to test it on the same surface for comparison. Hopefully at that speed, on a track or private road. But seriously, this has been discussed before, top speeds seem to be around 120 for most people, rangin from 105-130 and some iffy claims at 140.

 

some1 told me i could have blew a fuse,so 2morrow I'll either take it 2 the dealer and just tell i may have blown a fuse or check it out myself 2morrow.trust me ive tried about 4 times on straight surfaces in the country and still will only do 110,my car wasnt going downhill either when my car was doing 120

 

what did you gap the sparkplugs at? best is .044-.045. the minimum .039 sucks ***.

 

i have no idea, i was going 2 put them in myself but the mechanic said he'd do it for free so i let him do it. or a blown fuse because when i was doing 120 30sec later something smelt burning,and i didnt try hitting that speed until sometime after i changed sparkplugs an my tires.
