Any thoughts on the future of Mitsubishi?

With recent news about Mitsubishi's problems of avoiding 2 recalls and now Daimler Chrysler not pouring any more $$ into the venture, what's going to happen to Mitsubishi and the resale value of our cars? My thoughts immediately is who is going to buy my Mitsu come selling time if they go under? Seriously that can happen as they are in the red as far as profits are concerned.

Mitsu claims their Electric division, heavy equipment, insurance and bank divsions will support them now that Daimler has backed off.

Oh, yeah...Daimler owns 37% of Mitsu and now selling off 1/3 of that share.

Your thoughts?

Wll karateman, first of all, japanese cars doesnt have much resell value from the beginning. And besides, Mitsu will never go bankrupt, cuz i think they still want the mitsu car line going. Therefore, they will make their other divisons support them financially. When Daimler Chrysler is selling 1/3 of their share, some other people will buy it, its the way it goes. So dont worry about it, since i believe mitsu can pull it off.

IF you remeber back in 98-99 mitsubishi made an annocment that they had not made recalls on the eclipse that should have been (thats the way mitsubishi works there jerks) But I still like there product as a base for my dream car when its finish but even though there laying off 20000 people I still wouldn't worry with the evo and the NEW eclipse sale will come back and someone (as long as its not FORD) will buy the 37% of lost stock

100% with you there stroke. No matter how reliable they say their mitsu cars are, they still wont admit that they need the recall. None of the less, Evos and Eclipse are one of the best cars (at least thats what i think). If FORD ever buys that 37% of the lost stock, they might make Evo call Musolution or some weird name, not to mention that they will change the look of Evo into Mustang-like style. Hope that never happens~

I have a friend with a 2nd gen eclipse, and he says mechanically it's been the most reliable car he's ever had. I took that into great consideration when I bought my RA.

Here's an overly simple example why that won't happen:

You have a company. You sell yellow stickers.

Your competitor sells red stickers, but is in financial trouble.

You want to buy into them, but you're not going to use their facilities to produce more yellow stickers, because then you just have more yellow stickers to sell to your customer. No, you want them to keep making red stickers to sell to people who don't like yellow ones. See? You're making money off people you wouldn't have otherwise. And hey, if they have a better way of producing the stickers, you can use that for making your yellow ones.

Finbar is a very very smart man. He will help turn things around. The new eclipse will be a BIG seller. Just off the looks alone! They (mitsu) need to stick to common sense. Which Gaignon(or however you spell his name, former CEO of MMSA) did not have any of. He was a complete idiot!!! O'neil did wonders for Hyundai and look where they are....Hyundai has been recently ranked up there with Toyota and Honda in terms of quality( I can't remember where I read that though...it was on yahoo headlines one day). Give him some time to work his magic and things will be OK. The biggest thing in my opinion is getting rid of the image that mitsu currently has. Which is a teeny bopper, dance crazed, young audience. Because "most young" people can't afford cars period. They also need to lose the public perception that they are a bunch of liars and scandals trying to make a buck. Mitsu has it problems that need to addressed by rooting out from the core...meaning firing of the hierarchy of the company and start fresh. In my opinion that is what needs to be done to get fresh original ideas back into the company. Again this is just my opinion...

Since the new eclipse will be such a HIT, it comes to a point. Which is better, Eclipse or RA?

They are 2 totally different cars directed at 2 different kinds of people. The new eclipse again will be a huge hit with women like always. But I think it has a bit of the 2g eclipse in it and that was a smart move by mits. I hear too many people at work complain that they don't like the the 3g eclipse. And that they need to bring the old style back.

The RA is directed at people that want a decent performance to dollar ratio. And that RA does that. It is directed more at the enthusiast than the eclipse is. WHo knows that may change though when it comes out(eclipse).
