Seems to me that I read somewhere (maybe manual) that you need to keep an eye on it, since running it empty could burn out the sprayer motor???

Maybe Mitsu got the hint, the water sprayer is toodloo on the '05s
i thought that the 05's just got rid of the manual controller and the spray is always on auto.

Nope the sprayer is gone for '05, replaced by the ACD pump in the same location.

yup-

I used to have a 2003 evo, and the manual said that while the "auto" feature is engaged, the intercooler would be sprayed for 2 seconds every 5 seconds. I think theres a small amount of improvement, track times would be down a couple tenths / lap with the sprayer on and there was threatening levels of heat-soak. I mainly noticed the difference in trying to pull out of a 75mph or so corner after hard braking from a 130+mph straight. (track use, of course )

of course, i dont need to worry about any of that anymore, after trading in the '03 for a 2005 silver MR!

Cool

never really noticed a difference myself. i do spen most of my time over 100mph so i'm assuming it's helping somewhat. i always hit auto everytime i drive the 03. i keep at least 2 gallons of distilled water at home always.

What was the reason they took it out of the 05's?

To fit the resevoir for the ACD system. It's in the same place as the intercooler spray bottle.

^ thats right. I dont feel any gains at all with my sprayer. I even told my friend to hold down the sprayer button so I could see were it came from and I just cant seem to find where the water is coming from. I cant even see it spraying. Does any one have this problem??

Spray is from in front of intercooler.

The only time I noticed a difference was on my top speed run. Got up to 157 and the car started to slow down, I held down the sprayer button, and about 15-20 seconds later it started to pick up speed. (maxed out at 163 ) Road was flat.

I do use the sprayer to help cool the intercooler after every autox run I do.

i dont have that on my car due to it being a '05 but i have driven a '03 and what i noticed was minimal. im going to be running a N-tercooler chiller wich i have witnessed make very noticable differences. if your set on having a intercooler sprayer and the stock isnt what you want why not try a aftermarket spray system. just my opinion.

Ressurecting an old thread here - I've been thinking about taking this out to save some weight from the front of the car too. Looking for some other weight savings things as well. I never use it, I think it's just a gimmick to make the car more "rally like." Kind of like that rear wiper, but I do use that at least! Carrying 10 lb of water around an auto-x course somehow sounds like a dumb idea considering I can bring my own used windex bottle and park it by my car.
Dude Syrihl - why didn't you just tap into the existing line that brings the fluid to the windshield sprayer? Only problem I could see was if you ran both systems at the same time, but if it's raining you obviously don't need a sprayer :-o

I'm probably going to do that myself for weight reduction.

But who says that you need to actually fill it with water? Heck, some competitive autocrossers drain all unnecessary fluids from their cars.

I don't think it will work if you just tap the intercooler spray line directly into the front windshield wiper lines. I've already thought about it and you would be trying to suck water through the rear pump and air through the front windshield spray openings at the same time. You could hijack one of the pumps and just run lines to the front like the guy on norcalevo did. But it might work Would have been a hell of a lot easier than what I did
