In car and driver magazine, they mentioned the loose tail on the S2K during the write up on the car. My personal experience in the car says it's tail happy. It's got very little to do with a 50/50 ration and more to do with suspension set up--specifically size of the rear sway bar.
So what if the engine is used in an SUV? Does that mean that the GM Typhoons were slow? Just because an engine gets shared between platforms, it doesn't imply the engine is any less worthy of being put in a sports car.
Nissan's VQ 3.5 liter is a jem. It ranks among the top engines almost every year. You can't argue the performance of this engine along with great torque numbers.
Many auto manufacturers use the same engine in different platforms. My dad has a FX35, mom has an I35, I had a 3.5 Altima, all have the same engine and all tuned to different HP and torque numbers for their application.

The S2000 has snap oversteer at the point of dissapearing talent.
If you keep alert, and don't push the car beyond it's limits the car is absolutely phenomenal. If you don't, then it will bite you in the worst way possible. There were one or two instances when I knew I had pushed my luck a bit too much and harriedly sawed the wheel to keep the rear from completely stepping out. The S2000 has no electronic mechanisms to save your hide, and it's completely unapologetic in this regard. The '04 has wider tires, and changes to the anti-roll bars as well as some alignment adjustments. The car has less of a tendency to come around, and is more compliant when pushing it pretty hard. Though if you do completely unsettle it, then yes, you will probably end up in a big 'ol pit of pea gravel.
The S2000 is a phenomenal car. Though attempting to run it at more than 7/10th's of its ability on public roads is simply asking for an eventual close encounter with the wooden kind.
I say Evo MR, all the way! I used to work at a dealership as a service tech. We had troubles with them and personally we ran into problems with them more than my friends down the street at the mitsu dealers. Ive driven a good number of STi's that were well modded and they dont compare to the Evolution. To each his own
Well thx for your input i was just wondering what you guys thought ... i been wanting a evo since they came out .. But now i got the money and i am selling my 2001 eclipse gt ang getting the MR in about 3 months or so
Changes on the 05 STi

New rear aluminum suspension pieces
New sensor in DCCD (yaw-sensor)
New helical LSD upfront (replaces Suretrac LSD)
New skidplate
New 17x8 rims with STi logo etched into side (supposedly the rear stance is .5" wide now too/front stance hasn't changed) The tires are still 225/45 though.
New steering rack
New power steering oil cooler
New fender flares (very tightly integrated into the body - they aren't just "taped on")
New front hubs - 04 pinks will not fit 05 STi.
New shifter
New visor fabric
New fabric on door arm rests
Parking brake relocated closer to driver
New cupholder position beside parking brake now
New cupholders in rear (deployed from back of middle arm rest)
New centre console with full auto climate control
New heated passenger seat (Canadian model only)
New anti-theft standard - key immobilizer system
New standard 6-CD changer/6-speaker stereo system
New paint colours: Obsidian Black (replaces Java Black Pearl) & Crystal Grey
BTW, worst thread EVER!

That is right, Mitsu is like one of the biggest...if not the biggest...companys in Japan...saying that Mitsubishi will die is like saying that Damilier Chrysler..sp...will die..
..Mitsubishi may lose it's US market but there will always be Mitsu parts and cars for us
freaks.....But back to the decsion at hand... I would pick the MR because of the comfort factor, power, and because I love
....but really I think that the MR is the better deal...

AND NEW HEFTIER PRICE!
AND it's still 2 seconds slower in track than MR FQ300... If they even bring the WRX STI WR1 over to US...
STI's are so ugly... Everytime I see it, it gets uglier and uglier...
But I'm glad they're putting all that stuff in to STI. Maybe they could take all that stuff out and make the whole car with ALuminum like Jags...

This is something that cracks me up. I see it all over the place. You quote only one of 3 important numbers in determining how fast the steering is - turns lock 2 lock. The other important number is turning circle and wheelbase. When you know all three then and only then can you know whether a car has quick steering. The Evos turns lock 2 lock is a very low 2 BUT its turning circle is much wider than the STis. So the Evo's effective steering is not quite as fast as the difference between just the two's turns lock to lock implies. The Evo still has faster steering just not as fast as one might think.
The Evo does have a very large turning radius (over 32' I believe), but it's also very responsive. That makes it very easy and fun to drive.
You can have a small turning radius, and terrible steering response. One isn't indicative of the other.
