US Lancer+upgrades vs. evo
US Lancer+upgrades vs. evo
I'm getting a lancer...the question is whether i should get the US lancer now and upgrade it (possibly new engine..definetely turbo) or just wait...spend 15k more and get the Evo 8 when it comes out. I thought intitially that the US lancer was like the civic and that there was a lot of aftermarket parts and expeirence in upgrading it...but now i see that it's not generally possible to squeeze much more out of that car. So is the EVO, even at the higher price that much better??
Thanks
Thanks
I don't even know why people bother with these questions. The two cars are such different animals they don't warrant comparison. Your other thread should have all the answer you need.
The Lancer's been out for all of a year now. I don't know where you expected all those parts to come from.
Honda's has many MANY years on the market to build up all those parts.}
If you have the money you may as well wait and see, but what you want from the car and what you want to put into the car should be the two determining factors.

if you are going to spend some cash upgrading your US Lancer, and you can afford the cash/wait for the Evo8, the Evo is probably the better answer. The US Lancer can be as made to go as fast as you want, (like just about any other car) as long as you have either the tech knowledge or the cash to make it happen. but, the US Lancer is, and will probably always remain fwd, which will never have the turning, and espically brake & turning performance that the Evo8 will because it is awd.
this is a great article on the dsmtalk board describing the dynamics between awd/rwd & fwd

I am not slamming the US Lancer in any way, but fwd has some disadvantages in driving dynamics - it is simply very hard to dial out understeer in a fwd car.
my 2 cents

Thanks to most of you (*points finger at mod...j/k i undertand you have to deal with us n00bs all the time it's a pain in the ***) for the construcitve critcism. I didnt' realize that the two cars were so different that they could never really compete. Many people I know have civics that they put about 5-10k into that can outrun mustangs and corvettes easily....so i thought that it might be a better deal to upgrade the US lancer INTO an evo than buy the evo itself. But as i did more research and got comments i realize that the EVO is really in a class of its own. I think i'm gonna save my money, wait for the EVO and get an amazing car.

they "duped" ya. The reason I got an OZ was because I knew about Evo, closest thing this wallet can afford
just wait for another year. you will be able to find alot more lancer parts at cheeper prices. aftermarket companies watch what the car consumer buys. the US Lancer has only been out for a little over a year now so they are only now starting to put aftermarket parts into production. supply and demand!!
It's going to take a lot more than just aftermarket attention to build an Evo from a Lancer. Don't waste your time or money unless you just want a difficult to build project car. Just wait to see what the Evo's all about and, worst comes to worst, if you don't like it there are plenty of AWD potential powerhouses out there.
I don't know how everyone can put the evo and the us lancer in the same catagory. They are 2 totaly different kinds of cars. yea the frame might be the same but nothing else is. Thats like the chevy S10 and the blazer...they have the same frame but r they in the same catagory? NO
