I'm WAYYYYYY further south than Houston. I ran without plates for 2 days because I was too lazy to put the back one on after it fell off, rofl.

My bumper was damaged due a towing snafu and just before taking it to the body shop to have it replaced, I took off the front plate. So they didn't drill a hole in the new bumper. Presto!

Actually I do put the front plate on for the street, but take it off for autocross--partly because hitting a cone the wrong way could bend it, mainly because the car will look better in photos with no front plate. On the part of the bracket that goes up against where the hole used to be, I stuck a sturdy felt pad to prevent it from scratching up the bumper.

I _have_ been pulled over in chicago for having the plate in the window and gotten a $25 fix-it ticket.

I'm also in Chicago, and the dealer told me the same thing when I went to check out the EVO.
For $25, I'll just take my chances and leave it off.

i don't have front plates on my other cars and don't have problems with the law. but the side mounted front plate on the evo makes a statement. it says symmetry is for posers, function is fashion if your function is being the fastest.
