A quick hello from a newbie and a question.

Hello. Now the question. I just purchased an 03 VIII, Rio Red about two months ago. I feel that I am getting used to the 271, what can I do to increase hp without negating the warranty and quick. Thanks.

Not a whole lot.... you can put a new muffler on but not a cat-back if your lucky you might get 5-7 hp out of that... you can put a k&n filter on it but not change the intake system might squeeze 3-5 out of that but really any mods you do to the car voids your warrentee. I had the same question you did and thats what Mistu service department told me. If you want to increase your speed you could do things to lighten the weight or put softer tires (aren't many that are softer than the stock ones) that will give you a little better pull off the line. But if your looking for a very noticable gain in hp/torque kiss your warrentee good bye.

you just saying "increase hp without negating the warranty " on the Internet voids your warenty - so now you might as well mod your heart out

actually, i agree with sentinal - that's about all you can do.

maybe upgrade the IC?

No one can tell you for sure without having experience with your personal dealer. It all depends on where you go and who you're dealing with. The dealers don't really have a list or anything that says what will and won't void a warranty. Like me for example, I have an est. 300 WHP or so, and I still get warranty service. Some people just do catback exhaust and get it voided. So it all depends on your dealer/service department.

Ask your dealership what their policy is ... not all are as bad as some would have you think. I'm putting on the Vishnu Stage 1+, and its not going to void my entire powertrain. The dealership policy is what the law requires. IF the warranty claim is a result of the mods, its not covered, otherwise I'm ok. If, for example, I have an intercooler failure and my turbo slags the engine ... well, its covered (and before you flame, I asked this very question.)

The dealership currently has my Evo, they replaced the leaking oil temp guage sensor which they installed as part of the package the guy that ordered the Evo I bought (he walked away from his deposit ... long and sad story) asked for, under warranty. They unfortunately managed to fry my ECU trying to reflash it to fix the P0300 multi-misfire problem ...

Talk to your dealership, the sales manager, the service manager, and the salesperson, see what they say.

Welcome, enjoy the ride !

I had a dealer say that only boost gauge and turbo timer would not void your warranty

i agree raymerd is right... all depends on dealer... i know around here... ( and my good friend works for mitsu ) they are totally fine with warrenty... and the reasons from what my friend said.. that there aren't many around here that people work on..... and like i asked somoene before... some places have never drove an evo.. so if you do something like a.. cat back and a reflash.. some may just think thats the stock car.. just a new exhaust

really all depends though man.... good luck.. and welcome

Some of us try to not ... and give in to the dark side, others walk the path of light and remain pristine ... I know at least two folks on this board that will not modify theirs. For a lot of people, 271chp is plenty ... for others, its like giving a sober alcoholic a bottle of fine 17 year old Irish Whiskey (Jameson's of course) as a gift ...

Welcome, and enjoy the ride.

You could chanage the catalitc converter also in your exhaust system it should increase hp 2-3. Evos are really good cars already and if i had one i wouldn't know what to do performance wise...
