Cool Where should I start ?

Hi guys and girls,

Mitsubishi finally came into Canada last month. I totally fell in love with the Lancer O-Z Rally Edition. A search on the Internet led me to this website. After reading your posts and looking at the various members' photos, I couldn't control my impulse any more and finally brought a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer O-Z Rally Edition.

I spent many mths researching and looking for my 1st vehicle. For the past 8 yrs, I have been driving my parents' 1998 Volvo S70 GLE and 2001 Nissan Pathfinder SE. Now, I can finally call this " MINE OWN VEHICLE ".

Before the Lancer came into Canada, I was in love with the Mazda Protege ES "GT" and the Nissan Sentra SE-R, but when I saw the Lancer O-Z Rally Edition, it just "blew" them away and my mouth started watering.

I fell in love with the O-Z Rally Edition because of the standard kick a$@ rear spoiler and the O-Z rims. I got the factory chrome exhaust tip.

Ok ... enough of talking ... here is the situation. I just finally got a job ( which enable me to get the Lancer ), meaning I am really tight on cash, in terms of the money I have to spend on my new car. My parents was willing to pay for my Clifford car alarm, that's all !

I am thinking about starting my modification with ONE of the following three items:

1) K&N drop-in air filter

2) PIAA Xtreme White 9007 Headlight Upgrade

3) PIAA Xtreme White Driving & Fog Lamps

I will end up doing all three, but which one ( in your most honest opinion and most useful ) should I do first ? ... This is only the beginning of the enormous plans I have for my car over the next few weeks, months, and years. They include saving up for a kick a%$ sound system with DVD-based navigation, subs, XM satellite radio, and of course, a MP3 deck, 17" 5-spokes rims mounted on Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position tire, Tein SS coilovers, F&R Eibach anti-sway bars, Evo VII rear spoiler, neon light underneath the vehicle, exterior bulbs upgrade, and much more ....

I already did the cheapest protection, already. I dropped the factory engine oil and replace it with Mobil-1 Synthetic Motor Oil and will be replacing the factory ATF with Mobil-1 Synthetic ATF too this long weekend.

Once again, you guys and girls are totally awesome and are totally helpful, always willing to help. I am so proud to be a member of this forum. I hope you all can help me with my mods over the coming days, weeks, months, and years.

Thank in Advance !!

i'd go with the short ram intake first . . . then an exhaust . . . then the headlights.

Now I might be reading into this too far but........
If you drove your parents cars for the past 8 yrs and out of the two of them the oldest one is only 4 yrs old. How does that add up?

NorCalOZ,

I should have explained it more clearly. You are absolutely correct !!, I have been driving for the past 8 years ( Started at age 17, now 24.5 ). Before my Mom got the '98 Volvo, she had a 1988 Pontiac 6000 STE, which I learned to drive in. Before my Dad got the '01 Pathfinder SE, he had a 1987 Bonneville SE, which I also drove at time ( Hate column gear, IMO ). Hope that clear up your confusion !!

I think you should go with either the RRM short ram, or go with the K&N drop in filter. Your choice.

Good luck.

I don't think he's looking to spend more that 100 bucks from his choice of options on one purchase but the K&N panel is definitely worth it. Cooler looking than stock and the fact that it's cleanable is very nice. Not that awful cotton crap.

Intake, Exhaust, Test Pipe then Throttle Body. That should sufficiently last you about 4 months or so. In the meantime you can get bulbs and stuff.
P.S. I saved money and went with Sylvania Silverstar's and have been very happy. PIAA's aren't worth the mucho bucks they cost IMO.

(Rob, there's no water between us and Canada. It'd be more effective just to use the normal roads than building a bridge.)

Intake and exhaust are still my favorite recommendations for first mods...in that order.

EDIT: OH! You meant a figurative bridge! Got it!

Hobie, the Blue Water Bridge connects Port Huron Michigan with Sarnia Ontario and I don't know the name but there is a bridge and a chunnel between Detroit and Windsor Ontario.

EDIT: and there is a lock canal system and bridge connectin Sault Saint Marie Michigan to Sault Saint Marie Ontario...
