Question To lower or not to Lower

I'm considering getting some lowered springs for my car to lower the CG and increase the handling. full coil-overs are clearly able to provide a large increase in handling potential, but are very expensive! does lowering the car just with springs help or does it just screw up alignments and actually make things worse?

i'm not looking to lower the car for better looks, i'm all about the cornering! any advice or experiences of others would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
warren

thanks, i've read through that thread and it seems that the general felling is that with a modest drop and a proper/aggressive re-alignment and a rear sway bar, lowering the car has some body-roll advantages and generally improves the feel through the twisties.

thanks again for the re-direct.
cheers,
warren

.. there's alot of posts around that will help answer your question. In summary, I've gathered that unless you are going for looks alone, don't replace your stock springs or the car won't handle as well.

Save your pennies and get coilovers and do it right..

I have eibach prokits and they helped my car slalom noticeably better. Read these two threads for more info.

I had springs and noticed an improvement in roll reduction, however that was the only improvement. I say my tanabe springs were a downgrade from stock. Same goes for teins in my friends car.

Leave it stock or coilovers, unless your handeling is not that importatnt to u

I have yet to hear any complaints about eibach prokits, other than them not being low enough for some people. RRE recommends them. The people who have them here like them, including myself.

eibach will sag within a year. Get h&R or Tein.

I'm lowering my ride! go for it. What do you have to loose?

And that's a bad thing? I wouldn't mind going lower than my current ride height. I keep a close eye on my tires to make sure they're wearing evenly. So far, I have about 4k miles on my car w/ the eibachs installed and my advans look to be wearing normally.

It is if only one spring or one side of the car sags. It will look stupid.

What about the regular RSR springs? They are about the same price as the Eibachs but they maintain the same ratio of stiffness front to rear as the stock springs (the fronts are 80% of the stiffness of the rears) and they lower 1.4 inches as opposed to the Eibachs only going an inch. Seems like they would be ideal. I despise the "raked" look given by essentially all of the other choices out there. Besides, a car handles better when the rear is even or slightly lower than the front.

The Eibach springs will sag? Have you experienced this in the past? Eibach makes some of the best suspension coils in the world.

I'll check for sag over time. After I lowered my car, I have about a 2 finger gap in front, and a 1 finger gap in the back. I'll keep an eye out on it.

The Eibachs on my GTI and 350Z sagged a little. I won't buy Eibach springs anymore.

How many miles did you have on the springs before you started noticing some sagging?
