ECU Flash vs. MBC
My 04 Evo is currently stock. I just ordered the Defi D series boost gauge, and have decided on my first "real" performance enhancing mod. I would like to eliminate the boost taper that occurs on the stock car.
Right now my current understanding is that I can go one of two ways.......either an ECU reflash, or a MBC. I know the manual boost controller is cheaper, but will they both accomplish the same thing? I know the ECU flash will provide additional benefits such as different A/F map, and increasing the red-line. If I was to purchase the ECU reflash, would that make the MBC useless? Sorry if this has been covered before.....I tried searching....didnt find much except the differences between the flashes......thanks for any info......

Get a Hallman Pro MBC...less than $100 and holds boost solid as a rock...the factory boost control setup sux the big hairy one...go with the MBC and then get the reflash...BTW, good choice with the Defi gauge!
The ECU flash cannot eliminate boost taper like a boost controller can. You are better off getting a MBC in addition to a flash. But you can get a MBC first until you get a flash. The flash essentially "ties' in your mods to get the most HP out of them. Get whatever exhaust you want and intake, MBC plus any other mods and then get it flashed so you don't have to get it reflashed everytime you get a new part.
