ecu flash or standalone ecu

I was wondering to do for my evo given my mods. i have a typhoon intake, dnp manifold with 44mm tial wastegate and 10.5 hotside, turboback 3" exhaust, an d a hallman mbc. Should do a reflash or a standalone ECU. If a reflash what would you recommend? if an ecu which one is the easiest to setup. do any of the ECUs have an autotune feature? given these mods what's the most boost i should run with the stock turbo?

with a dnp manifold you can run an external WG.

It sounds like you're planning to upgrade the turbo at some point if you got the DNP mani w/44mm wg. Let us know what your future plans are so we can give you more educated suggestions.

You could benefit from a standalone now, but even moreso if you're going to continue upgrading the car. In Cali I know they scan ECUs, so you'd need to do some going back to stock to pass with a standalone. Just something to keep in mind...

As far as all out performance goes, an AEM EMS will give you that. The 10.5 hotside seems to provide gains of 10-30 whp depending on other mods. It's a replacement turbine housing for the stock turbo with a larger inlet. This increases efficiency and flow, allowing the stock turbo to produce more power at the same pressure level.

Did you buy the car with this part already installed or was it not explained when you bought the part? If you have any questions let us know.

The best approach would really depend on your intended uses for your car, driving style, future mods plans, budget and priorities

The best bet would be to call around to some tuners of both devices and get some input and see how you are confortable with

As an ASIDE - the K & N Typhoon intake really does not work with with the stock ecu - its the worst intake I have ever seen and you acutally loose power with it

A $199 through the mail flash might be a good way to get your car running good and allow you the enjoyment of your set up while you conisder your numerous options

Feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss these topics further

Here's the extra short version. I'm leaving lots of details out so refer to a FSM (Factory Service Manual) or have an experience shop perform the install:
Remove turbo
Loosen the vband at the center of the turbo and remove the turbine housing
Slide the new housing on
Re-install turbo (don't tighten the v band clamp all the way until the turbo is clocked just right and it's bolted to the manifold and o2 housing
Top off coolant and oil (and get as much in the turbo's oil lines as possible)
Prime turbo by cranking without letting the car start several times so it gets thorough oil supply to the bearings. If you have a safe way to keep the turbo from spinning while priming it, this ensures the bearings never spin dry. This is probably overkill since this whole job only takes a matter of hours, but it's good practice whenever possible (and safe).
Start car and check for leaks
Bleed coolant system THOROUGHLY. Do not rush this as a blown head gasket or engine damage caused by an air pocket will surely ruin your day.
