Welcome EVO Police,

Regarding LASER ... I would like to get some feedback as to your knowledge of the "cosine" effect, and also of known laser errors.

Thank you,

jcnel.

Hey what's up. Basically from what I understand and how I was taught in the class is this. The Cosine Effect has to do with an angle of an approaching vehicle or a vehicle driving away. In turn what this means to a police officer, is we normally want a straight away road service so that when we are pointing the radar gun at your vehicle it's a close to straight line from my radar gun to your car to get the best possible reading.

What all this means is that if I were to try and clock you with my radar gun at a corner, or hill top where I'm getting you at an angle, the readings may be off. We are taught to get the best possible shot, and a position to get the greatest mass that is approaching us.

In addition, with the laser radar detectors we use, radar jammers do NOT work, so don't waste your money. However they do work on some of the older K-Band radar detectors that they may be still using.

The ones we use now are completely laser. There shaped like a gun with a rechargeable battery and trigger. Here's the main difference, I can have this new laser radar gun off until I see you coming. In Laser Radar School they teach us now to get a visual of a speeding car first, then fix are sights on the vehicle. In turn what this does is let you get close enough to me without your radar detector going off, and then I clock your speed. Once I hit the trigger to get you, and your radar detector is going off, it's to late. Now the only chance you have is this, say your driving and speeding, and just before you hit a turn, your radar detector goes off, more then likely you should be fine, because I just got someone else, and your radar detector is close enough to pick it up.

Other then that the best thing is to just try and be a polite person as possible. Don't use the excuses we have all heard: Running late to school, I was keeping up with other traffic, etc...

Couple things that may help you, is to have a FOP Sticker some where on the car, military ID (whether active or reserve) Me personally, I give military, FOP supporters, and the working people breaks, I.E. UPS driver, DHL, people who I know have to rush.

Anyway, hope I shed some light on the famous radar detectors.

Yes I realize all this but my radar detector picks up lazor too and it didn't go off like i said so how can I keep cops from lieing to me or worse to a judge if I try to defend myself?

Do cops usually take the PBA card away from you ...after they pulled you over? Or do we keep it still...?

we need to have custom made car kits so that the surface of the car is painted with the radar absorbing paint, and all the angles of the car is to a certain degree to reflect radar. haha make the car stealth. then i think the lasers wont work. yeah that would be cool. hehe

EVO police - I got a ticket for exhaust. He said I could not have a modified exhaust. Is this true? I thought all catbacks were okay except if it says "off road use only" I mean he didnt check for a cat or downpipe ( I had stock cat and downpipe anyway). And the ticket he gave me non correctable. I thought this was a correctable violation?

Wow I'm going to start taking paypal donations for these questions! lol Just kidding. The reason I don't mind answering your questions is before I became a police officer, I had a 1993 Mustang Cobra right after high school. Cops use to mess with me all the time. I had the H Pipe, Flowmasters, and a E-303 Cam. So my exhaust was loud.
Moral of the story is this. People who are *** holes that become the police, are then police officers that are *** holes. lol

When it comes to exhaust regulations. This is the rule of thumb. Make sure it's 50-State legal. If you can prove this, always take it to court. Matter of fact, always go to court. Because in some cases, the officer might be on vacation, sick, etc...

i think it would be awsome if we started a seperate forum for Evo Police and any other cops on the site (as i am sure there are more) who could help answer some of our questions. Maybe some of the vendors on the site could give those guys discounts on stuff in return for helping all of us out. Just an idea.
