Evo questions

Hey guys,

I've been an evo fan for a long time. I have been considering the evo, but have also been considering other options: Sti, 350Z, S2000, used NSX (early years), possibly the 05 g35 coupe with manual transmission (rumored to have 295 hp). Anybody have any suggestions. Plus the MR, anyone have more info. A bit about myself, I am a senior in high school. Am working to make the payment (pharmacy tech) My dad will insure it, and pay for it and I in turn will pay him. I need the car to last me 10 years at least so I am reallly concerned with long term reliability. (Med school).

Tell me what you guys think.

Also, moderators, you can move this post to wherever it should be if this is the incorrect place. Also, you can IM me at neal540 and talk to me. Any input is welcomed.

I would go with the EVo still as the coupes will limit you in the future or even now as the ladies at college may want rides, so room for more helps. all nice cars, and all were in my last list before I narrowed it and got the Evo. gald I did. have fun with your new car.

The EVO will last you 10 years.

If you need something to last you 10 years RELIABLEY I would highly recommend the G35 coupe. Your needs and wants will change over 10 years and the G35 will be the car most likely to still appeal to you after that long.

An AWD car like the EVO or even STi will cost a lot for maintenance, gas, etc. An S2000 will not be practical at all. You could be married with children in 10 years! I had a 350Z and have migrated to the EVO. Its kind of a cross between the G35 and S2000. Not very practical, not razor sharp either. Personally, I would never buy an expensive semi-exotic like the NSX used and no warranty. You want high repair rates? You got them with that car.

G35 coupe.

s2000 and nsx - had used to own '01 s2000 and a '95 nsx. they're not pratical for daily driver. but both are fun cars to drive and handles extremely well.
350z & G35 - too heavy and i think that it isn't that fun to drive. a good friend of mine drives a G35 manual, i took it to the mountain twisties and it handled is quite well however the car is too heavy for my taste.
evo - better performance (handling) over the sti. and it's mod friendly. if you're all into only performance and mods, this is the car for you.
sti - better as a daily driver. softer suspension and more comfortable than the evo.

i think that overall, if you plan to drive the car for 10 years, sti would be your choice.

I would have to agree with the previous posts. The S2K and NSX wouldnt serve well as daily drivers. The G35 has one up one the Z because i think the lines are better and it seems to be a car that you will like for a long time. However, maybe im just biased but i cant see anything better than the evo out of the choices you listed. 4 doors, big trunk, and very enjoyable to drive. The 4G63 is a great engine and very reliable.

I am not trying to be a wise-a** but all of those cars are too rich for your blood. All of them can get you seriously killed. None of them will last you 10 years. All of them cost too damn much.

I assume you are intelligent if you are contemplating med school. So be smart and buy a new car for no more than $18K or buy a used car for under $10k. There are lots of fun cars in that price range (the Scion tC comes to mind, or a nice used Civic hatch or a used GTi) It will still be more than you can afford but at least it won't get you in as much trouble.

The truth is that most teenagers first cars get beat to crap. They drive way too aggressively and don't have the money to pay for maintenance. They get into at least one accident before they are 25 (why do you think insurance rates are so high?) Knowing all that, why would you buy an expensive car as your first car? Why not buy a cheaper car now and a more expensive car after you get out of med school? Your tastes will surely change and you can use the money you saved for the more important things in life like food, shelter and women.

Not trying to be a wise *** but I don't think there is a single person on this forum qualified to make the statement you just made regarding anyone else on this forum. That includes you and what you think you know about this guy. Answer his question and not your own.

00R101... idk where you can say this kid can be like lots of other teenagers.. i myself am 19 years old and have an evo.. and quiet honestly its the safest and most reliable car i have been in...

now to your question.. i'm 19 i'm in the same boat as you... i think you would be greatly satisfied with the evo... 1) i believe the ext looks are better then the sti, 2) you can get a tad more saucey with the evo then the sti.. . 3) got better seats... and 4) well we just have better forums lol... but no seriously.. the evo or sti would be a good choice i'm just about the evo cause well i beleive it is probaly one of the best year round cars there is....

and for the g35, 350, nsx and s2k... great cars.. my brother has a g35.. very nice ( infiniti will be offering a turbo kit upgrade this year it puts you to close to 350 i believe )... but those cars for year round use in kansas city idk.. i do believe there is plenty of snow there like in pittsburgh ( maybe even mroe for you ) correct?? i mean those are all rwd cars.. and that doesnt' work out too good in the snow..

so good luck with everything...

All your choices sure are pretty high profile vehicles....I'm worried if you'll be parking your new car in a college dorm/frat parking lot? It would be a shame to have ANY of those cars vandalized by some idiot. Regardless of the one you get, I'd still spring for a $2000 beater to drive/park at school if you so choose. That said, I vote: #1 G35 - good perf, luxurious, gorgeous looks, seats four, #2 EVO - super perf, most everything comes standard you'd want, exotic looks, seats four, #3 STi - same as EVO, #4 350Z - same as G35 minus many of the luxury touches and no back seat, #5 used NSX - 270hp but you'll lose a race to a Z28 Camaro, they come well optioned, the most exotic looking car $40K will buy, only seats two, I bet very high insurance for a teenager, #6 S2000, convertable, yuk?, probably the slowest in this group, plain styling, honda reliability, no room for friends or stuff. I also just have to add...if you're anything like me and into high perf cars/bikes, I give you 3-4 yrs MAX before you get the "itch" to update your ride. Good luck!

Hey guys,

thanks for the information. I have a 1996 Toyota corolla with 80,000 miles on it. thats my beater, i pretty much just want a nice car that i will end up taking to college with me, hopefully the med school where i plan to go (UMKC) isnt full of asses who vandalize cars. my friend has a mercedes ml320 there.

well my top 3 cars on that list have been evo 350Z, and s2000 (i like the first 2 more than the second one). I am just afraid about the reliability of a turbo. last thing i need is to have to buy a new car before the end of college. g35 coupe is an amazing ride with sensual lines, it just costs $$$. Sti is just out there as a competitor for evo.

I am in such a confused state of mind about the car situation because I really want to get my car

Maintenance and stuff that costs money will always be there to be taken care of. I am a pharm tech, i make 10/hr and work 30 hrs a week. I've saved up quite a bit.
