I don't doubt you can get those prices on an STI. But you were not comparing apples to apples. If you want to compare, then use MSRP vs MSRP and not MSRP vs "I know someone who can get for $$$$". I doubt you could get anything less than MSRP back when STI's first came out either.

"...a little research", touche

The GSR Evo was already more then capable of competing with the STI and the MR just makes it a little better at what it already does great.

Basically, go drive them and buy the one you like more. Not sure if you think threatening to buy an STI on here is going to cause Mitsu to lower the price of the MR but by now you should know if you want an Evo or an Sti. Not trying to flame, just saying how I see it.
I have driven my friends EVO, so I know what its like ..... I haven't driven the STi yet but I do drive a WRX .... I don't know about you, but money doesn't grow on trees for me ... and I don't want any regrets when I make my purchase. I just want to make sure I start with the right platform for the right price .... the GSR looks very tempting to me and may eventually be the path I follow but I want to weigh all my options before I jump in head over heels. All I want from my car are performance and looks that I like and the future potential ..... I not threatening anyone, I just want to know the actual MSRP...

I not comparing apples, I'm comparing cars .... to me, were I to buy a car within, say, 2 months, I have to know what they are being sold for, at that time. MSRP doesn't mean crap to me at that point, its what the market rate for the car is. Its what I can get the car for, its how much goes out of my pocket. Make sense? So pretty much comparing MSRPs to me becomes pointless ..... who cares if I couldn't get an STi for below MSRP in the past? I wasn't looking to get an STi when it 1st came out ... what matters to me is now and the near future because I am looking NOW!..... research means nothing if you haven't learned anything from it and can't apply what you have learned... Kapish?

Uhh.... WHAT? Closer ratios are for acceleration.

Please, go buy your $30,000 STI.

What are you talking about? I am going sticker to sticker. More research??? No, I think it is the other way around in terms of research. For one, I work for a MITSUBISHI / SUBARU dealership. So....guess what! I got my research right in front of me. I deal with this day in and day out. Second of all there are more dealers that are going to charge closer to sticker price than not on these cars, regardless of which one. Maybe more so on the MR just due to the amount being made...let me restate that...that have been made already. For two, I am not knocking what you say....what you said is misinformation, flat out. " a) if the MR goes for ~$35K then the STi is $5K cheaper...." You are plainly stating that a STI is 30k and the MR is 35k. If not, then you needed to explain yourself better. Quit trying to justify buying an STI when you want an MR, but can't afford it.

And yes the a 6 speed is made for keeping the car in the power band better...meaning acceleration. Not higher speeds. The 5th and 6th gear are not spaced very far from each other....I believe it is about 200-400 rpm difference...if I remember reading the graph right that someone posted about the 5 speed and 6 speed differences.

Did you say potential? Trust me, you want an Evo

Evos have a lower ride heigth so I'm guessing it would get caught first. I'd hate to see how rusty that thing gets if it frequents the beach

Sorry may be I wasn't clear on the way I worded things. I meant to say that I could acquire an STi for $30K right now and if past history is any indicator then the MR will go for either MSRP or above that since it is newer (some may get it for under MSRP). For me that means the STi is $5K cheaper when compared to me paying MSRP(not for everyone else) but this also helps others who are shopping to get a better deal. I won't quit anything! but where are you getting the fact that I can't afford an MR? research? please ..... maybe I can? maybe I can't? but I not going to overpay for something when I don't think it is worth that much ....
